thinking of trading in my 996 for a 355 spider or 355gts; has anyone on the forum gone this route? if so would you mind sharing your experience vis a vis ownership of the 2 vehicles (performance, reliability, running costs etc)

What will you use the car for? How often will you drive it?

And what sort of 996 is it?

Have you posted in the UK section yet? And Pistonheads too?

    fwiw, i had a 996 C2 Cab i traded in on my 355 Spider. i also had a 996TT.

reliability and running cost will vary wildly depending upon what car you get. you could get lucky (i did) and get a rock-solid, super 355. you could get a 355 that needs some attention, etc.

it's really wildly variable. make sure you get a good PPI. do expect the 355 to be more finicky and expensive - it's a likely outcome, though not guaranteed.

    doody.

I still have the 03 996 cab with turbo suspension and evoms intake and must say the F355 is hands down another world of a car. The sound, brakes, LOOKS, and overall feel of the car. I am still a Porsche nut with 964, 3.2 targa, and 996 and wish for good weather everyday to get the spider out and rev it to 8500. Nothing can compare, even the 996 TT which I test drove (also for about $125,000K for cab) for something in the $75,000 range (thats what I paid for 97 355 with 11K last month during blizzard in Chicago) there is nothing out there. The car overall is pretty simple for small things and the big cost is the 15K which is all people talk about. I just spend $4,000 on engine reseal on 91 c4 cab so $5,000 for 15K doesnt sound that out of whack for a car we all drive hard on the track and the road every day. Hope this helps, but all I can say is TAKE THE LEAP!!! YOU WILL BE HAPPY!!!
