With 200 miles on the car it is occassionally refusing to go into R when the small shift lever is activated. The only way to get in when it does get stuck is to key off and key on again, then it shows R before the starter is engaged, no gear change sound either. Any ideas????????????

Your not trying to do this on a hill are you. If you stop the car in gear on a hill it can be difficult to get back in nuetral or reverse.

It sounds like you are not giving it enough time. Make sure car is at complete stop, your foot is firmly on the brake and that you have lifted and held to the rear the lever for a second or two. Then wait. This is one operational area that needs work. I get very impatient when turning around or parking and find myself not giving it enough time to go to R. If that does not work you will have to have it looked at.

Also if the PIS is set to low it will first manifest itself as a refusal to go to R.

Does a low PIS figure mean it is slipping a lot or a little before engagement???

It has happened only when parked on a hill, small ones but a slant none the less, why does this matter?????????

A low PIS figure reflects an attempt to make it slip less.

I've seen one 360C that was built with the reverse gear hub fitted backwards. Ths removes the dog cut gear face and offers the uncut flat face instead.

You need to pull the rear cover of the box to see, and it is easily turned around.

But every now and then it will go dog to dog anyway. This is like many cars, that may require a quick re-clutch to move things around, of course an F1 cannot re-clutch itself.

My 05 spider is in the shop right now for the same problem, 300 miles. Thay spent a week testing,f1 is ok, looks like thire going to replace the clucth. Thay explaned that the wheel that ingages the f1 from the clucth remains spinning when it shoud come to complet stop for engagement. My advise take it in.
