I pulled this up off Canton Racings website:

"Windage is the flow of air within the crankcase. Each time a piston comes down in the piston bore the air under it is pushed into the crank area and each time the piston goes up the air is pulled in behind it. In a eight cylinder engine all eight pistons go up and down each revolution. At the same time the rotating assembly is spinning and churning the air. Oil coming off of the crank is also put into the mix. So as the RPM increases so does windage. At 6000 RPM’s the assembly is rotating 100 times a second. A windage tray keeps the windage around the crank from the oil in the sump area. It should allow the oil coming off the crank to easily enter the sump without the windage affecting the oil already in the sump. A good windage tray should also keep the oil in the sump from getting into the rotating assembly when the action of the vehicle is in motion".

I know later cars may have a tray, but I couldnt find one on an F40

Another advantage to a good tray is the reduction of oil aireation (SP), or the oil being beaten into a foam like mass. While most modern oils have additives to hinder this action, under extreme conditions it can still occur. This allows the pump to push air laden oil thru the bearings , rather than solid oil, which is obviously a far better lube.

You are correct, I have done those motors and my memory was wrong.
The flat 12's have them cast into the trans case. They do have a very well designed tray in the 355 and 360.

Who are you kidding? Does the good of all mean ripping off a customer for $4900 or was it just good for you?

    Mr. Sloan~

As you seem bent on sabotaging any thread Kermit finds himself in, or anyone who sides with him, I guess you want to keep the flames burning. How this helps the fellow enthusiasts on here I cannot figure out. I really didnt think it was within the rules to do this, but what do I know. But you may as well know my feelings on this if your want to persist in ruining threads for everyone.
Perhaps if you hadnt decieved us about a sheriff picking up your parts, when in fact it was your attorney, I would find your side a little more believable. But a Sheriff needs a court order to do something like that, and in the end you admit you had no court case, and no court settlement, no sheriff. You also apparently signed some document that removed Kermit from any liability and that he was no longer responsible for your heads, and also stated your heads were corroded and calcified from being overheated and were pourous. Why would you sign that document if it wasnt true? Is the document Kermit showed us ficticous? Did you in fact not sign it?
Now you have begun to attack me, writing me private e mails, and coming into threads I respond in, or like this one, one I started. I have no axe to grind with you, I dont even know you. I dont even really know Kermit, just spoke to him briefly by phone. But when he got banished right after questioning the 4.1 liter project, regardless of what the "official" reason was said to be, I felt something was fishy about it. I do hope I was wrong to feel that way. I know enough about a few things to know that there isnt anyone I know who could weld corroded aluminum heads full of calcium and that are porous to top it off. And obviously, as you have them as door stops you havnt found anyone either. I also do not know of the reasons you paid him $5000, but as you lied about the sheriff, and you signed that paper Kermit has, I just can no longer believe you.
Personally, I dont want to discuss your problem with Kermit in every damned thread you see fit to cause a disturbance. I really dont care anymore. If you have nothing positive to add, please then go haunt someone else. If you do have something to add that has some sharable information that will help us all learn, please feel free to contribute. But as far as your feud with Kermit, I think this needs to just stop. Otherwise perhaps the list administrators need to make some ruling.

    ATTENTION MODERATOR(S).
I was banned for 30 days for "Spamming" a couple of individuals
I have no problem with that issue, but rather would like to put it behind me with an apology to those I may have inconvienced. My sincere apoligies are given, and I can gaurentee it WILL not occur again.
That behind, I would ask what is to be done with this individual who in spite of the fact that his off topic post have become so detrimentl to an entire group and the threads?
My inconviencing of a couple of fellows got me banned for 30 days. I accepted that and have no ill will, let us put it behind us.
I will be curious to see the way that this individual, in spite of the fact he was given an entire thread to "Air" his beef, yet STILL continues to hijack threads is treated. I believe it will illustrate the integrity of the Administration for all to see.

I hope you'll share details of your project when you are ready to "air it". What (little) I know sounds v cool. Drop gears et al. I am keenly interested.

I'd be very upset if it all went down as you say. Really upset.

That said, I do think it is time to move on. You risk losing from here.

Come on pal, show us your toy!

Paul, give it a rest. I gave you your own thread to vent in and even placed it in the main forum for all to see, so you had your chance to voice your warning. Do not hijack any more threads in the Tech section or you will be temporarily banned from posting on F-Chat.

Also, do not take this thread any further off-topic by replying to me here. Send any comments/complaints to Ron, Auraraptor and myself via PM. Any further comments on this subject posted to this or any other Tech thread (by anyone) will be deleted.

    Carry on, gentlemen.
