Well obviously, Stephens. I was really looking for a cutaway picture to compare the interiors but couldn't find one. The exterior design would seem to lend itself to better flow though, wouldn't it?
Paul, are the cats in the pic 360 cats or cs cats? If they are 360 can you tell me in and out pipr diameters and overall length and max diameter? Or anyone who has a set available to measure? thanks, John
I have Hyperflow cats on my 348 together with a Tubi. I didn't have the car long before doing the exhaust as my cats were punched and the car wouldn't pass California smog. It is very clean with the Hyperflows and passed the smog check with flying colors. No dyno information, and since I barely drove it before I had the exhaust done I don't have any butt-dyno information either. It does sound louder and more aggressive than another 348 here with a Tubi and stock cats. Haven't done a side by side with the other car at speed - his has chips so not a control for the stock cats anyway. I can say that 355's don't run away from me so I expect my exhaust has closed the HP gap a little bit. I'm very happy with them - other than cost I see no reason to run test pipes especially in a convertible. My exhaust absolutely stank of fuel before the cats went on. Cheers Kevin
I would install these cats in minute if they performed anywhere near the numbers on the dyno sheets shown. Take the claim from Verdi a few days ago where their chip gives the 360 35 extra HP but if you install the chip with the performance cats and the tubi one gets 48 HP extra over the stock. That is a total of 445-450 HP for a 360 and a possible 465-470 HP for the Stradale. If those numbers were true I would have the HP of 430 (close enough to 483 HP) and the light weight body of the Stradale...where do I sign Now Hyperflow is sellings just high performance cats and they are saying that at 6000 rpm there is an extra 31.6 HP and at 8600 rpm there is 13.8 hp extra. I would love to see where one of our members would be allowed to use the products mentioned for testing to verify the claims. If I were on of these retailers I would get involved with this test and if the numbers pan out I believe there would be at least 10-15 units sold...You can not beat word of mouth
I'm going to dyno my car very soon so I'll post the results. Now this will only show what my car is producing with the hyperflow cats and capristo exhaust. I have no idea what it produced before but at least you can compare to what the stock factory figures are. then i will dyno with the powerchip gold 98 added afterwards. tony
Vincent, PUHLEEEEASE dyno before and after. I'm sure several of us will chip in to pay for the dynos! Also, if you have a video camera, PLEASE record it the same way before and after so that we can hear the delta. IF the HyperFlow cats actually have dyno charts like that, OR if they have any increase in HP AND give me more Euro-like sound, AND they don't turn on the check engine light, THEN I'd buy a set immediately.
I believe Vincents car is a beautiful 355 B. That being said, I am not sure we will get a true picture of what changes the new cats will make on a Stradale. The stock Stradale, as someone suggested, may have the better flowing metal cats already installed.
Oh, yeah... good point... thought I was in a CS-specific thread... that was that other thread. Never mind, Vincent.
I browsed through the parts manuals - interestingly enough the CS and CH have the same parts numbers for headers and cats in the EU (Modena differs)- nice
the ECU is programmed by F and works in open loop mode only; i.e. does not recognize the cats just looked after the thread in which we discussed the ECU at length - Heiko posted a dyno sheet but it was lost in the FChat crash - http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=569&highlight=hgparts as far as I remember it was 25hp+ for ECU only and 50hp+ for ECU plus no cats at max RPM
I agree with Spyderman. If the manufacturer would allow one of our members to independently and successfully test their product, I would buy in a heartbeat. In fact, the product needs to deliver only 75% of the claimed hp improvement for me to make the purchase. Tim
Ok - so has anyone on this board put hyper-flow cats on their 360 or CS? and if you have can we get a report.
reports on the 355 seem good whz is everybody so nervous on this issue, my experience with my 996 Cab and Turbo is that its changing the Cats which make the difference to power, NOT the exhaust
brian and thomas, i am also very interested in replacing my stock cats on my stradales with hyperflow cats. i'd love a bit of a boost in performance, but my main goal is to get more of a "euro stradale" sound i called hyperflow and spoke to troy at hyperflow. i asked him about the reports we've heard about dyno tests showing significant HP gains. he seemed to back away from confirming these gains because he knows how difficult it is to get an accurate reading due to all the variables, etc. i told him that there were a lot of guys with stradales on ferrarichat who were chomping at the bit to buy hyperflow cats, but we want someone we know and trust to install the hyperflow cats on their stradale and dyno the car. i mentioned that there were at least two guys (brian and thomas) i could think of whose opinion on the cats would carry a lot of weight. i asked him if he might be willing to work with us in some fashion so we could evaluate the hyperflow cats. he seemed to like the idea. i didn't go into any details, but i bet he'd work something out with us so we could make some decisions. would one of you guys like to contact troy and see what you can work out? maybe he'd send you a set of cats that you could test with the option to buy them if you like the results. and retuen at no cost if you don't like the results. i bet he'd sell dozens of these cats to stradale owners on this board if brian or thomas posted positive results. let us know what you decide to do. I'll contact him... I have a number of questions I want to probe him on... and I'll be willing to let my Stradale be the test vehicle... it has enough miles on it that I think its exhaust is "burnt in" (the sound changes the first 10K miles or so)... and I'll do before/after dynos and before/after videos (for sound comparison... including a tunnel run). I might wait another week though and see just how many FChat Stradales we can tally up in that other thread... we're just about to 50 now! That's damned impressive! We might have 10-15% of the US Stradale population here!
sounds good. btw, i know two other stradale owners who aren't fchatters who are also interested in hyperflow cats. the benefits of allowing you to evaluate the hyperflow cats will extend beyond the immediate fchat population. even if the HP gains are fairly modest a lot of us may purchase them just for the possible improvement in the sound of the stock exhaust. i personally like the sound of the stock exhaust...at high revs. i'm hoping the hyperflow cats will make the stock exhaust a bit more interesting at lower revs. and if it happens to boost the sound at high revs then that's fine with me
Can somebody tell me what the difference is between the exhaust systems on an EU spec CS versus a US one? Do the US ones have additional or more restrictive Cats?
the US version has "pre-cats" built into the headers where the euro version does not. both versions have the same cats and the same silencer. the overall sound volume of the euro CS is much louder than the US version.
Thanks 720, yes the car (EU spec) is certainly loud , spent a charity day at the track taking kids for rides all day - passing guys in spiders under full noise they said it was like getting slapped in the face the noise was so sharp and loud. BTW I note the manual clearly says "The car is fitted with metal catalytic converters." Do US and EU cars generate the HP? I'd be surprised if they do, generally if the sounds not so pronounced the air flow is likely to be restricted, but wouldn't that hint at replacing the headers to get rid of the pre-cats or that going to make you fail emmision tests, whatever they are;-)
as thats what the Hyper-flows are but they must still be far less restrictive than stock otherwise it wouldn't make any difference. On my 996 TT I replaced the 200 pre cats with 100 cell race cats and removed altogether the larger main cats, sounds and goes great, never had a CEL light and now have 8,000 miles. From this experience and with my 996 Cab, less restrictive cats make a much deeper (but not basy) and marginally larger, sound.
Both the OEM cats in the 996 TT are metal ADVANTAGES A metal-based monolith offers many advantages in comparison with a ceramic one, for instance Better thermal conductivity Shorter light off time Less risk of overheating Less back pressure Larger effective area Greater catalytic capacity Smaller and more flexible design Thinner walls Higher mechanical strength Better resistance to thermal shock
Brain, I hope they will work with you on this. Your dyno test and sound clip will certainly make this choice, whether 360 or cs, a much clearer one for anyone considering the switch.
