True Sportscar for Less

I just put down a Jap Sportscar in my home room. What are your choices for a car for < $50,000.00. Must be bad–to-the-bone true sportscar.
Yeah, "sportscar" is one word.

 

A lot of $50k sportscars aren't bad to the bone.

Guess that depends what era you come from. To me, that does not allow more than 2 seats, little comfort equipment, more street legal race car than passenger car.

"Jap" cars will forever be associated with mass produced appliances. There's no such ting as a Jap sports car in my opinion.

 

Now if I could only teach Italians about climate control I would have a Nobel Prize.

True sportscars aren't judged by their 1/4 mile times. Miatas can perform competently and with a little cash, extremely well in all aspects (including 1/4 mile, if you so wish).

If you want a TRUE sportscar, the original Lotus Elans are still pretty bad ass. There's something pretty cool about a 1500 pound car with about 130hp.

 

the s2000 is a blast to drive...the only thing that put a smile on my after driving a 360spider....

 

Off the top of my head, Nissan Silvia/200sx, 300zx, skyline, 350z, Mazda rx7, rx8, mx5 Toyota supra, mr2, Mitsubishi fto, gto, evo, Honda integra, prelude, s2000 subaru wrx

 

If Toyota ever decides to build a car to compete with say a Ferrari 430 Spider I would be first in line to purchase one. Would have no problem spending Ferrari kind of bucks for a car that would surely blow Ferrari away in terms reliability and cost of ownership. All thru my years of buying "fun" cars there has also always been a Toyota in my garage. To answer the question in this thread I would say buy a new S2000 throw on a supercharger and a couple other mods and for under 50g you would have one hell of a pure sports car that would give most Ferraris a run for their money performance wise

 

I vote for the S2000. When I bought mine I would hear the comment every so often how the 'jap' cars don't have any soul but I don't buy into that. The only thing that I think takes away from the true sportscar image of the S2K and some other newer sportscars are all the powwer options, a.c., p.w. c/c etc. but I have to admit it is good to have the best of both worlds.

 

So an NSX is not a sports car? That's hard to believe.

Back to the original question, I own an RX-8 and it's a blast to drive although there's arguments of whether it's really a sports car or a coupe since it has 4 doors.

 

Ok, thats way easier. The Ford Mustang V8.

 

must not have ever driven an NSX or an S2000 then.

If you want a sportscar in the traditional sense s2000. If you don't mind broadening the definition, NSX, Supra, 350z, turbo MR2, and twin turbo RX-7 are all great cars.

I think a great project would be to find a 93-95 RX7 that has a clean body and interior but a toasted motor (they all have those ) and have a rotary expert build you a solid motor from the ground up. You'll have a beautiful monster for under $30,000.
