Post some pics so that the public can pass their ''unbiassed'' opinion.

Used to get that when I first got my 308--I just laughed and walked away. Finally showed one of them the engine-they had a h*ll of a time figuring out how I got those Ferrari valve covers on a Chevy V-8!!! LOL! Now I just tell them it's got a Hemi!

    I politely answer their question.

Then explain that this is Ferrari automobile number 24905.

They don't have much to say after that.

I had a young female cashier at a gas station ask me if my 308 was real. I started laughing and reassured her it was. She asked why I was laughing but I couldn't tell her it was because the first thought that popped into my head was to point to her chest and ask if they were real! I probably should have.

That's funny, because it's true. Even after showing someone the labels on the door posts...AND showing him the engine, he still answers: "Well anybody can do that!.

You really should take this as the greatest compliment that can be made. These people believe that this motoring icon is so unobtainable that no one could actually own one let alone bring it out in the wild. This takes me back to the days of longing for a serious sports car so badly. In those days the thought of there being any such thing as a " less desirable Ferrari" was absurd.

The funnies story I heard on this topic is one that Napolis tells. His Mark IV lost to a replica GT40 at a car show once. :)

The one or two times that I've been asked that I tell them that it is, and that I had a tough time putting it together, took me years. No sense in dealing with them, and it is funny.

When people ask what it cost, I tell them 30k.

I do that all the time when sourcing parts or having generic service done.

With regards to the kit car thing, a lot of people out there just don't care about cars and figure that most Ferrari looking cars are fake cause Ferrari people live on their own planet. I guess they are the ones in outer space.

Probably the prancing horse symbol. I've had people point to it (on the Modena) and get really excited by the new "Mustang".

There is a minor tradition here where several of the local car clubs get together the third Thursday of every month at one of the of the local Sonic Drive-Ins (weather permitting)

Well, there is gentleman here that has a purple Diablo. It is a beautiful car. He decided to visit the Sonic one Thursday evening, and needless to say, he drew quite a crowd of admirers.

Of course no sooner had the crowd assembled, a slightly inebriated Mustang owner stated that he knew the Diablo was a kit car. The owner, trying to be nice, opened the engine cover to prove is was real. Well the Mustang owner just ignored the obvious and continued to point out how anyone could build a kit car and put Lamborghini valve covers on a Ford engine. Needless to say, it got ugly, and finally a punch was thrown. Our local Lamborghini owner was reduced to screaming he could buy every car on the lot and still have enough change left to buy the Sonic and throw the whole rabble into the street. With that, he climbed into the Diablo, stabbed the throttle a few times, and painted some lovely black marks in the parking lot. The Diablo left with some of the most beautiful 12 cylinder music I have ever heard.

The Mustang owner was left to regal his pals with his insistence that he could outrun that kit car anytime, anywhere.

It was just sad. Even sadder is that I haven't seen the Diablo since.

I've had the 360 mistaken for a Mustang several times now. One time a gal asked me if it was the latest Mustang. I played along saying "Yeah, how do you like it?". Her boyfriend then turned to her and said "See, I told ya!". Of course moments later she walked far enough around the car to see the Ferrari lettering and then gasped the obvious "It's a Ferrari!".

But if you think the 360 gets the kit car question, just wait til you're in a 430. It sort of looks like a kit car even to me!

So far, I haven't had anyone think that the 328 was a kit car, even though there have been some Fiero-based 308 kits. In general, there seem to be far fewer "Ferrari" kit cars than there are "Lamborghini"s. (Just look on eBay and you'll confirm that.)

I agree, I just find the unsolicited comments funny. I didnt realize the reaction you get with this car whether you like it or not.

Well, I think I have had my Daytona mistaken for a 240Z which makes sense since that is what the Japs copied when they designed it.

I was also recently in an exotic car showroom. There were Lamborghinis, Bentleys, a new Rolls Phantom, and in the corner was a 550 Barchetta with the top down. That's what I was there to see. Anyway, these other people had walked in off the street and as they walked up to the 550 they said, "What's this, the new Mustang?"
