I'm about to redye my console and was hoping someone here has done one before, and can pass me a few pointers....... Anyone every done this ?
Looking for anything specific? I did a lot of work on the 328 I had : http://www.thebestemployee.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2842&highlight=328+interior+slag
I'm trying to find out if I can do it with the console inplace or if I have to remove it. And what about all the switches and guages, do I mask them or remove them ? Should I just mask and dye around the edges with a thin artist brush or possible a q-tip ?
I remember seeing this thread and thought you did a great job. That's what made me consider re-dying my seats, door panels, and console. Any valuable tips that come to mind when removing the console? I can't imagine it would be too hard but I haven't gotten up the courage to try it yet. -Jesse
DEFINITELY take the console out, don't do it 1/2 arse!! I just took my TR console out last Sunday, no big deal at all. Just label your wires w/ masking tape and a pen.
Dear Ferraristi, I just did my seats and a few trim pieces in my 91 TR. I used leatherique products with great results. BUT...do not use a brush...I don't care what the instructions say....use a spray gun ( Devlibis $175.00) an air compressor ( Sears 195.00) and pull out of car. You will be super pleased with the results. I have a tan leather interior in my Testarossa so.....I will probably be doing this again in the future. Tan is so damn hard to keep concours new. (I use my car as a daily driver.) Don't mask off and brush. Even lightly sanding, you will still see the shadow of brush lines...especially on a very sunny day. Do it right and you will smile every time you drive the car...not cringe. Shamile Freeze...Miami Vice!
I agree, but there IS another alternative to airbrushing or spraying. See the reprint of the FCA article at http://www.fca-se.org/conc_leather.htm
308's center consoles are VERY different. It's not the switches and wires that are the problem, but it's the old cable-pulls that make it tough. When I did mine, I did loosen the console and remove the switches, but just masked around the cable-pulls, since they're semi-major surgery to remove and replace and re-adjust. That combo is quite sufficient.
I just recevied the leatherique kit; I'm going to touch up some cracks and gouges in my console; I've already put the first application of rejuvenator on the seats; my seat bolsters are like cardboard; after the first application it made some improvement; the directions state it may take a couple of applications; will start on the console soon, I 'll give progressive posts on my progress.
After putting on plenty of Rejuv oil, cover it with SaranWrap to "force" it into the leather. Best is to let it sit in the sun so the pores open as the leather warms up, but you can also do it in the garage and let it sit overnight before taking off the plastic wrap.
