Congrats! I know how annoying things like this can be and how nice it is when they are finally resolved. Alas, the damned vacuum lines rear their ugly heads again. Birdman
Kermit, I 2nd you on Probst's book. Strongly recommend it. Have had a copy for years. Between it & the BOSCH technician training books, and the AU web site posted earlier, the K-Jetronic systems & their troubles are well covered & demystified.
Thank you for the kind words. It is a great feeling to know that I was able to help a fellow Ferrari owner, and fellow man. Thought for today: If everyone did a random act of kindness what would the world be like? Larry
Fletch, That is what I am under the understanding that this section is all about, helping each other. I'm glad to have been of assistance. Verell, I agree on the book, althought it does not hardly mention the Ferrari by name, it is one invaluable bit of literature in understanding the "complexities" of the system. Sometimes it takes reading it thru a few times, (and even moving my lips, LOL) but it is a wondrous help. So many toss up their hands as though Robert's injection is so complicated, when in reality, it isn't that bad. I would put it on the same complexity as a set of Webers in many respects, highly misunderstood, yet a good system. Kermit
A couple of thought that came to mind in clarifying the issue, FWIW: "Paul, This happened to me a couple of times. Chased down a problem with the ignition / fuel systems, fixed same, then still had a problem. Solution.....change the oxygen sensors. When the car isn't running right, this can kill an oxygen sensor quickly. You fix the base problem but still have the symptoms. Change the O2 sensor. Tom" If the manifold vacuum sensor hose was the culprit, it would enrichen the mixture, by drawing air from the leak(usually found on the long side of the bend at the fitting), It would act exactly like a bad O2 sensor, in my experience. The end result is usually a "loaded" Cat Con from the overly rich mixture that is the result. Which would cause the cats to react in this manner if they were tested when it was running OK: "I went thru the same thing with my 82 Mondy it was driving me crazy, 20 - 30 minutes while driving it the would do the things you have describe, changed -fuel filter, coils, injectors, cap/rotors,plug wires, plug extenders and even the fly wheel sensors and still run bad after 20 -30 mins. of use. It turns out that I had bad Catalytic Converters (original one's) when they get hot it would plug the exhaust flow - the technician used a pyrometer gun and confirmed that the Cats were bad." Randy" As the cats did their damndest to burn off the clogged hydrocarbons, they would by nature get hot and with the carbon buildup, be quite possibly plugged, especially if the problem had gone on for a time. "Last point, make sure everything is clean. An amazing amount of crud builds up in all the tubes, passages & vents over 20 years (and not just in the driver) Sometimes just a good clean can do the job. RF." RF I sure will keep that coil issue in mind, as it is an easy one to overlook, especially if ya had "help" (my observation: the more eager, the worse the result, LOL.) "Good luck, these problems are a pain in the @?@@ until you find the root cause, and then suddenly very rewarding ! RF" RF: It sounds like you got your knowledge from my old "Alma Mater" The School of Hard Knocks, (colors were Black and Blue, trust me). NOW, ENJOY THE DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
