It's that time: the dreaded 30K maintenance

I have a 84 Mondial Cabrio, and yes, it is that time for it's 30K maintenance.

This is my first one.

What can I expect to pay, and what should I expect to have done.

Any help and/or guidance is greatly appreciated.

Also what is the main reason that it is almost like religion to have these Ferrari's go through this overhaulin every 30K. (Aside from just common sense.)

Expect to pay $7500 at a dealer. They'll do everything (water pump on down). Independents are cheaper.

Go to advanced search. Enter '30K' & 'cam belt', then select 'search body of topics'.

Go to the Old fchat TechQ&A, search it for sam words, (search button is down at the bottom of old fchat.)
Then search old fchat's Tech Q&A Archives (they are different).

You'll find many threads with 30-50 posts each beating this topic to death. Everything's been cussed/discussed a dozen times over.

Bottom line is:Common sense & preventive maintenance. Valves wear & need adjustment, and insurance (ie: you don't want to even think about what it would cost if a belt breaks). Or 'how lucky do you feel'...

Everything else is opinion/wishful thinking.

 

Also check with sjmst who is a moderator on this board. He just had his 30K done not a month ago on his Mondial coupe. He's on the East Coast, but I think he shopped around a bit, and so could give you a sense of prices.
