Last autumn, my 550 crapped out in Laramie and I couldn't find a single AAA service in Wyoming or northern Colorado that would haul it down to Ferrari of Denver. The reason was because none of the AAA trucks had the webbing needed to sling OVER the tires and hold the car in place on the back of the flatbed truck. MY QUESTION IS THIS: How damaging to the magnesium alloy wheels is nylon webbing, when slung THROUGH the spokes? My biggest fear is that my car will be disabled in someplace like rural Wyoming or Montana and I wont be able to get anybody to deal with it-- EXCEPT if they sling webbing through the wheels. I'm concerned that nylon webbing through the wheels has the potential to bend the spokes or destroy some protective finish coating. Thanks. John

The vast majority of late model Ferrari's I have seen transported were tied down in this way. It is a very good way to do it.

That is the way they are tied down in the containers while being shipped to FNA. I watched the cars being unloaded while on break at one of the FNA classes.

Slings in wheels OK...done it on 355 and Diablo. Only damage that "may" result is when inserting sling through wheel, the metal hook can scratch the rim if not careful. You won't do that, but someone who does not care about the car may, if not careful. The pressure on the wheel from a nylon strap is insignificant.

That is how I transport as well. Right through the wheel.

You may put the wheel out of allignment when tying it dow too much I guess but hey, still the best way. I would not trust those slings around the tires.

Don't do it thru the wheels.
I towed a TR from Hollywood to Anchorage & the straps rubbed the paint right down to the primer.
Across town - perhaps.... across country - no way.

I've towed with the webbing around/over the front wheels and with a nylon strap through the wheels. I like the through the wheels best, I put a towel between the wheels and strap, no wearing of the paint so far.
