The question asked in the article was, "Was this justified?"

My question is, "How much did a .44 slug cost in Texas in 1897?

A tree and a rope have zero marginal cost.

A roll of dimes and a shotgun would have worked better.

What's it costing to chase after Jackson? A lot more than that and it doesn't look as if the prosecution has much of a case. How 'bout Blake and he gets off....

Of course it's 'worth it'. At least in theroey, we're supposed to be innocent untill proven guilty, enjoy equal protection under the law, and have a right to a fair and speedy trial.

In practice, did the media hang this guy? Who knows. Can we now execute somebody based on SOLEY circumstancial evidence? (albit some very damning circumstancial evidence... But think how easy it would be for a team of people to make it look like you killed your wife, circumstancially speaking...)

Now it is stupid to spend all this money to EXECUTE somebody, when a .45ACP will do the job just nicely.

I think a roll of dimes is 5 bucks. Of course you can pick up most of them and put them in gum ball machines.

    Slightly off topic:

I heard in China, the convicted gets a 20 cent bullet in the head and the surviving family gets a bill for the 20 cents. True of False?

These are some pretty important issues and should not be taken lightly or made in jest.
Is it two dollars or five dollars? I really can't remember.
What happens if the surviving family refuses to pay up?

Hypotheticarry s-peking, then they'rr owe at reast .40.

    There's 50 dimes to a roll.

Nickels are packed forty per - that's 2 bucks a roll. Yay.

But, think of what the Peterson case did for the economy.

    I think he did it.

    But...........
It is a little scary when someone can get contvicted/sentenced to death on highly circumstantial evidence.

Disclaimer: I think he should be tortured to a slow death but.............................the actual(admissable,ie..physical) evidence against him was very slim. It is scary when you think about it.

I find it disturbing that he's receiving marriage proposals and support from dozens of women. I sure don't see any reasoning behind that. Therefore, methinks these women should be lynched also to get rid of as many losers as possible in one fell swoop:

This is nothing new. Even Bundy had his groupies (and a wife and child from one).

Still...it is odd to the nth degree. Strange women out there throwing it at people that would kill them if given a chance.

Not that odd.. Some women (lets say 15%) really respond to the dark, mysterious types, history be damned.

As stupid as it is, they get off on the murderous types- Darwinism at work. Imagine the clout you'd have if we started a rumor about you!

No, it *really* is odd. I've never understood the mechanism that drives women to women killers, Bundy et al. But the history of such is there and is well documented.

I don't see men flocking to the sides of women in the same situation.

Maybe I am not paying attention?

You don't see men doing the same because we're rational human beings.. when's the last time you tried to booty-call a chick in prison? ;)

Women are attracted to power and notoriety; sometimes the lines get blurred between 'good' power and 'bad' notoriety, but it's the same nevertheless. A guy on TV for murdering his wife is no different from any rock star on MTV in this case.

My ex-wife used to say that there was just a certain 'connection' that she had with her ex-boyfriend that she and I never shared. He was a three-time felon who probably had a fifth-grade edumakshun (that should have been my warning sign..ah, hindsight) and she'd go on and on about what a 'real man' he was. The Federline-Spears syndrome, if you will.

It doesn't make sense to me as well, but I've experienced it first-hand and I know what a train wreck these women are. Believe me, it's a good litmus test for the single guy.

Let the governator call Bernie E. up, the media rights could be huge for future cases.

    I always found

"Please, God, don't make me kill again"

to be quite effective during the course of conversation of a date.

For example, the waiter brings a watery salad:
Me: "Please God, don't make me kill again."
    Her: "Ooh, baby."

    Later:
    Me: "Ooh, baby."
    Her: "Ooh, baby."
    Me: "Ooh, baby."
Her: "A little to the left."
    Me: "Ooh, baby."
    Her: "Oooooh, baby."
