I have just finished building the Revell F40 kit in 1/12 scale (will post pics soon). Just wondering, does anyone know if there are any other cars available in this scale like a 360 or an Enzo that require full assembly.????

Jaz, Tamiya makes 4 Ferrari 1/12 scale kits, all of them are F1 cars: the 312 that Mario Andretti drove in 70' (I think), the 312 T that Niki Lauda won the champinship with in '75, the 312 T4 driven by Gilles Villeneuve and Jody Scheckter in '79, and the 641/2 that was driven by Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost in 1990. They all require A LOT of work and have lots of detail, hydraulic, brake, and fuel lines, and working suspensions. A good place to see what is available is www.f1specialties.com. Norm is a good guy, I've bought lots of stuff from him

Protar also made a number of 1/12 Ferrari F1 kits, including the 126C2 which was reboxed by Revell in Germany a few years ago. Revell themselves did the F2002 in that scale.

If you want something a bit smaller and less expensive (but bigger than 1/24), Tamiya did a series of kits in 1/20 that are quite well detailed.

    Ferrari 312 T Lauda/Regazzoni 75'
    Ferrari 312 T4 Sheckter/Villeneuve 79'
    Ferrari 641 Prost/Mansell 90'

    Revell 1/12:
    Ferrari 275 GTB/4 66'

    Ferrari F2002 Schumacher/Barrichello 02'

The 275 GTB/4 from Revell is had to find, but the rest of the models, are all avaliable on eBay.
    I'm building the Revell 126 C2, and i think it's a very good kit.
    Bye.

If you're interested in large scale kits of street-going Ferraris Fujimi did several in 1:16 scale:
    Testarossa
    Testarossa Twin-Turbo (Koenig)
    F40
    F40LM
    288GTO
    512BB

These kits are quite detailed but can be challenging to build, due to the fragility of the plastic Fujimi used for the bodies. It's not unusual to get a kit with a warped body right out of the box.

Italeri also did 1:16 Ferraris, the Testarossa, Testarossa Spider, and F40.

Testors re-packaged the 288GTO and sold it under their label. Revell did the same for the 512BB and Twin-Turbo Testarossa. These 1:16 kits were physically almost as large as the 1:12 F1 kits, due to the fact that the 1:1 street cars are physically larger than the 1:1 F1 cars.

Protar made two versions of a 1:12 F40, one in solid color (red) plastic and a variation in clear plastic. It is quite detailed in that all parts open, but the plastic is thick and brittle making a challenging build. Monogram also made a 1:12 F40 and Testarossa but it was like a scaled up 1:24 kit, doors didn't open and lack of detail that should have been there in a 1:12 kit.

I have almost all of the above kits in unbuilt form. If you'd like some pics let me know.

Thanks for all the info guys, its much appreciated. Iam not too sure what the next model is going to be, I would love to build a 1/12 360, but its a shame that no one produces it. I think a Tamiya F1 might be next....

I agree with DYW's comments regarding the brittle nature of the plastic Fujimi used in their 1/16 scale kits; I have 2 Lambo Countach models and I have had to do a lot to get their bodies straight. The only Protar kit I ever did had horrible parts fit and lots of flash.

The Tamiya F190 641/2 is hard to find and going for about $250, so I reccomend you start with the 312T which you can probably find for $80-90, or if you can find it, the Porsche 910 since it is not as complicated and is a good learner car for the Tamiya 1/12 scale jobs. I'm starting one right now. I have about 20 of the 1/12 scale kits waiting to be built, so that should keep me busy. Also, the Tamiya spray paints look great when you properly prepare the surface, and the acrylic brush paints look really good too.

Hi again, if you don't mind buying off eBay the 1:12 Ferrari 312T and T4 by Tamiya can be had, if you are patient and refrain from going higher, for between $40 and $50US, not including shipping. You just have to be patient. Same for the Protar/Revell 1:12 312T and 126C2. I even got a 1:12 F2002 for $50US. The 641/2 can be had for a bit under $100. For something different the Tamiya 1:12 Porsche 934 and 935 are stunning kits. Tamiya just re-released the 935 (Martini version, which livery I love) and it's going for as low as $66US, which is a bargain.

I agree it's a shame that nobody makes large scale kits of street going Ferraris any more. Unfortunately there just aren't enough people buying large scale plastic kits to warrant it. Diecasts have improved so much that it's much easier to justify spending no time, just $100 - $150, on a 1:18 diecast like the Exotos and CMCs, or less than $100 for AA and Kyoshos. I would say I could not come even close to duplicating their level of detail and finish for the amount they charge.

Then you have the 1:12 diecast Ferraris like the Kyosho F40, Tamiya F50 and Enzo. It's too easy for somebody to justify working a few extra hours overtime and buying something already pre-built.

Too bad but that's why there's a thriving market for used kits. :)

I have an unbuilt Revell 1/12 275 GTB kit unassembled in the box.

I bought it in 1980, and just never assembled it.

I would entertain offers on it--not sure what it's worth.....

Not even sure if I want to sell it.....!

I used to see those on Ebay from time to time, and had one at one time but realized I would never build it and sold it. My guess is that a complete and all round excellent kit would bring at least $200.00
