Golly.....I'm not so sure on that.........certain amount of 'bling factor' that goes with goes w/the name Ferrari (for John Q) ......& possibly John Q equates more of that, than the 'racing heritage'. Lambo comes with less of that baggage.......some even see the brand as more of a 'core driving machine' (with less bling).
i do think a 100 to 120k exotic would do very well...perhaps you need to come up with the design Mark!!! ..... at that price range, you have the maser, the sl55, the 996 tt, and how about the new aston martin AMV8...the trouble is ferrari or lambo would almost have to mass produce at that price point....it would dilute the brand name and change there production process
two cars is hardly a "line"...lambo makes two kinds of cars..those that are fast and those that are faster
That statement mystified me as well. I dont think 'joh Q' is going to mistake you for Schuey on the street because you're driving a Ferrari. You should buy a car for yourself, not for how others will percieve you in it. Isn't that what a Lambo is for?
Lambo is looking to add a 3rd and 4th car to their line-up. I'd rather see a $115k starter-car than a 4-seater or a SUV. The reason Ferrari sells so much better than Lambo... you have 10,000 308's out there for $25-$55k and guys get hooked with the starter Ferrari and then work their way up the Ferrari range. Lambo needs this...if it want's the Gallardo to sell at $160k and 3,000 cars a year... you need a way to get guys into the Lambo camp before they make their first million dollars.
You say that as if he's giving you a deal by letting you have it at MSRP. Word on the street is that 05's can be had at 20K off. Let's not even start on (slightly) used ones.
I bought a Maserati Coupe because I liked the car, not because of the bling or the racing heritage (although Maserati has one). Most people think it is a Prelude, or do not even notice it, at least in Silicon Valley. Still.....The natural human tendency is to be or to get what other people would admire. Ferrari has that currency. You and I can claim to be more sophisticated than that, but for John Q Public, it is true. Flipping the PT Barnum saying: "Nobody ever became rich overstimating the tastes of the general public"
For what it's worth, after a pit stop in Piermont on Saturday(which, in season, is a haven for cyclists of the nonmotor variety), one bicyclist was overheard telling another, as my Diablo pulled out onto the street, "Check out the Ferrari." I'm not sure what that means. Does it signify that "Ferrari" is a generic label applied to all exotic red italian cars? That, apart from the ignorance of the speaker, all recognition on the street, except for those in the know, is attributed to Ferrari? Another person, earlier that day, referred to the car, after looking at the badge as a Lamborghetti. Maybe it means that the name is just too complicated. That was probably the downfall of the Aztec, too.....
Hmm...complicated names? You might have something there. I've overheard my 360 being referred as a Lambo once. Kinda weird since the person could clearly see the Cavallino on the rear grill. I've heard it's also an Eclipse and a Mustang.
