put a clutch in my f512m fitted sports exhaust will have a go at anything EXCEPT BELT SERVICE
I've done the timing belts and tensioners, spark plugs, water pump, thermostat, hoses, oil change and lastly installing a new oil cooler this week. I'm certainly not a mechanic but the 308's are really simple cars to work on. The only hard thing is just reaching or squeezing in or under to reach something. I'll give anything a try as long as I don't have to pull the engine and I absolutly hate trying to track down electrical gremlins.
Hi, I rebuilt one of the rear brake calipers, and installed a rebuilt alternator. I get a lot of satisfaction from the work. The car is built with close quarters so you have to be a contortionalist. This forum and their support helps a lot. The tips are valuable and timesaving. larry
The list is shorter if I list what I have not done. I have not painted the car. Have not rebuilt the transmission. Have not done any brake jobs. I have done just about everything else.
Same here except I have done my entire brake system completely from end to end and have not done my own upholstery work.
I have owned Ferraris for twenty years and have done almost every thing that needed to be done from pulling a few 308 motors for various reasons to clutches on 512 Boxer to timing belt, 30000 mile service, on my 348 and 355C. The list is to long and I have enjoyed every minute of it, well almost, they are Italian cars. It seems to me that working on/maintaining these cars is part of the mystic of owning such a piece of mechanical artwork. IMHO if your going to own a ferrari you need to experiance it to the fullest, be part of it.
How does getting the engine from the trunk (in pieces) to the engine compartment and running qualify?
I must say I'm impressed with you guys in your ability and dedication to working on your cars. I put gas in mine and call the tow truck a lot. I really enjoy driving my car but hate the thought that I might take it apart and not get it back together. I have found in the past that when I have to fix things (anything around the house) I usually end up having to call someone to fix what I tried to do, so i don't even try anymore on anything. I figure it is a waste of my time. There is less satisfaction that way, but I am not frustrated at having wasted my time and it not being right after.
At this time im helping a friend with one hes had less than two weeks!!Hes getting up there in years and he has created a couple problems...He broke the valve for recirculating air conditioning., among a couple of other things..........Im trying to see if it can be replaced or fixed..thanks anybody????lol
On my F355 Spider: -Motor oil Change -Gear oil change -Replaced brake pads -Installed test pipes and new muffler -Replaced top-ecu I have a 4-post lift and hand tools, no air-compressor. I will have a reputable independent shop do my major service this winter. I don't have the time for it and it's above my skill level. I do a search on this site before I attempt anything to get valuable tips. Maintaining your own Ferrari is VERY rewarding.
Tommy, Adjusting the valves and timing it is EASY. Motor-In makes it a PITA, BUT it is Easy. Rewinding a window is harder.
I've done (in order): Coolant change Oil change Gear oil change Water temperature sensor repair (sensor not very easily accessible, deep underneath the plenum) Seals r&r in the clutch Assisted with the major service in a buddy's garage I have no background in auto repair but like Ernie I enjoy the challenge and learn quickly.
