THE YUKON CHALLENGE CAR RALLY

You are invited to join a once-in-a-lifetime car rally from Los Angeles to Anchorage Alaska. This rally is free, similar to the Iron Bottom Rally. It leaves Los Angeles on July 15th and heads North to Alaska for the next 10 days. San Francisco entrants can join the rally on the second day when the rally passes through San Francisco.

Each rally team needs to obtain and prepare a rally car of their choice. There are three classes of cars:

Class 1: Rally car is obtained from a source such as Craig's list or Auto trader for less than $500. Cars may be sold or donated to charity in Anchorage and the team flies home.

Class 2: Rally car is purchased for less than $2000. Cars may be either retained by the team or donated to charity in Anchorage.

Class 3: Take any car regardless of the value and teams would be responsible for the return of the car home.

THIS RALLY IS INTENDED TO BE BOTH A MECHANICAL AND ENDURANCE CHALLENGE. It is a long, long way to Alaska. Much of the route is extremely isolated. This is not the place to have mechanical failures and brake downs, hence the mechanical challenge. The route has been selected with natural beauty and challenge in mind. This is not a race: natural and mechanical obstacles offer challenge a-plenty. Finishing is winning!

It is recommended that participants have previous rally experience and mechanical skills. However if you are crazy enough to have read this far you are welcome to join. Motorheads of all descriptions are encouraged to oparticipate. What type of car? It's up to you. Cars such as Tiumph, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Mg, Mustang, Volvo, 4 wheel drives, ex-police cars, etc. are welcome. British, Italian, German, or American are all candidates. Reliability is fundamental.
