A good friend & co-worker got tagged doing 82 in a 55 this morning as he was passing a another car (cop was probably pacing).

Anybody know someone in law enforcement/judicial system in that area?
    Thanks in advance,
    Clyde

PS - I noticed *A LOT* of cops out on the roads this morning, all actively pulling people over. Must be the nice weather....or month-end.

Funny you mention - I got the following email from a co-worker yesterday and dismissed it as BS:

    Hey,
Please let your friends & office know that the State Troopers will be out in force for TRAFFIC CONTROL starting next week.
    for about a month)
My friend works near this area and is going on overtime for TRAFFIC CONTROL.
    Unmarked cars will be patrolling
    Route 1,
    Turnpike,
    Route 130,
    Route 280,
    Route 80,
    Route 78,
    Route 24,
    the Parkway
and the Turnpike, etc for speeders during commuting periods starting next week for about a month.
He and other troopers are being paid overtime to participate and are expected to write a lot of tickets. Do not speed!

I absolutely have noticed a significant increase in both marked & unmarked cars out on patrol & cars pulled over for viloations.

Also, we still need to hook up with Lupe & test those Lidar units Gus has put on. See just how effective they really are.

I have a feeling this doesn't only apply to NJ. If you think about it the weather has probably crimped law enforcements ability recently to make $$$ on us speeders. Hence, it's time to make up the shortfall. Just a hypothesis...

I too have seen a marked increase in the number of speed traps and "pull overs" lately. Especially on 287 which happens to be my favorite road for testing my "abilities". :)

I'm all for the LIDAR test in the near future. Emil also mentioned it in another thread...

Just to add something to the thread. I commute ~60k miles a year on Route 17 in NY and the NYS thruway (yeah it's nuts but we do what we have too) All winter long there was virtually no traffic enforcement at all north of Middletown and very little south of it. Starting about a week and half ago the NYS Troopers were everwhere. It is like they were burried under the snow and the warm weather finally thawed them out so they can bust balls AKA making money for the state. I discussed this with a friend and this is what he was told by a Trooper. The Troopers are busy attending to accidents on secondary roads etc during the winter and thus speed enforcement takes a back seat. He was also told that it to dangerous for the Troopers to be on the highway outside of their patrol cars issuing tickets during the winter, so speed enforcement is further reduced. The Trooper said that once the warm weather arrives accidents go down and they are then free to make a big push at "saving lives". Based on this my friend responded to the Trooper with a question. Are you saying that lives are more worthy of being saved during the warmer months then during the winter months? The Trooper was not amused. Makes me agrre with others that it is really not about saving lives first, but more to do with the mighty dollar. Did you know that NY just raised the price for a car title from $10 to $50. Wow a 500% increase, What balls on Pataki.
