One word of caution - if you need a claim make sure you call the aa out first - the warranty co wont cough up on the sayso of a garage

Does that mean you can only claim up to 3 times for a max of 1kGBP each go?

I believe many of the indie guys can sort you 3rd party warranties out. Verdis definitely can (quiet Stevef), and I believe many of the others can too.

I purchased a 3rd party warranty for my 01 360. 8 months later went to make a small claim, the oil temp sending unit needed replacement. Warranty company would not cover it even though a Ferrari factory warranty would have covered it. READ THE FINE PRINT. I assumed that if an Oil pump was covered, and electrical switches were covered, then an electronic oil sending unit would be too. NOT THE CASE. The warranty company said if its not listed then its not covered.

There are a lot of parts that weren't listed on their puny 1 page contract ...

Needless to say I'm not a big fan of aftermarket warranties. Anybody have any positive experiences?

Third party warranties are desgined to both generate profit and give the customer peace of mind. These two objectives are conflicting, and the net result is they aren't worth the paper they're written on.

    All IMHO of course...

Well gents, some food for thought. I'll take a gander at the AA's web site and see what goes. I presume you have to be a a member if you need to call them out first. But for 100 notes, it's hardly a big gamble. The usual applies, get what you pay for etc.

I know that a few of the indie's offer warranty's. Guess I'll bumble around each one and get some info sent out. Then try to sort the wheat from the chaf etc.

These warranty's are like the dodgy Dixons / Currys electrical ones. Nothing goes wrong until it's just outside of warranty period. But, in the case of the pony's engine not going Va va vroom, then piece of mind must be a priority.

I agree with the general comments above about worth. Note also that the factory warranties are no better in this respect.

The more chunky warranties are usually in the 800-1200 quid range per year I think, depending on what's covered.

Bit of peace of mind when you look at the cost of some of the big components, but I suspect most of the specialists will tell you it's rarely these bits that break, and more often the bits that the warranty people squirm on.

I think so m8 yes. I think the only warranty worth having is one from a main dealer.
