Not a 100% sure but i've heard they have the locations of speed cams but does go out of date as they put up more. But if its the pda kind then u can download the new locations straight to tom tom. If its stand alone tom tom not sure if u can do that.

I've been contemplating buyin one for a while now for my ipaq pda.

I have tom tom on my pda (ipaq) which works very well. Speed cameras it can show on a dbase and if you download checkpoint software, you can add audible warnings. However it picks up every location, not just live ones, and does not pick up radar or mobile points. So not ideal at all as a sole speed detector, but useful.

Steve I use TomTom Go with the speed camera plug in and its excellent, the DB is regularly updated, you just download the files to your PC, plug the GO in to the PC via USB, the GO shows up as a removable disk in Windows, and you copy the files into the relevant folder.

On the GO device, speed camera locations is shown in the Points of Interest menu, you just enable this and you are good to go. The interface is so easy even a monkey could use it, it's all touch screen stuff. Takes seconds to download / enable.

Would highly recommend it as it is a bloody good SatNav device with the added bonus of scamera locations shown as well. It covers mobile units (regular haunts noted) / SPECS etc etc.

I'm just winding SteveF up m8, but you are serious, I use a Valentine 1, because I only want to know the positions of live cameras. It IMO is the best.

Depends what you're looking for really. If your PDA, whuch I presume you are, as you already own one then it's an affordable add on solution. The software is also slightly more configurable than the Tom Tom Go version which I have. I believe one drawback of the PA version is that the volume is a little low although there are ways round this e.g. Ric355 hooked his up to an FM transmitter and played the sound through his car stereo. PDA version is much cheaper too

The advantage of the Tom Tom Go is that it's self contained and is completely black box, an advantage if you just want to keep things simple. Plus it has a re-chargeable battery meaning that you don't need unsightly wires going to your cigarette lighter. They claim it lasts 5 hours but mine lasts about 7 hours between charges.

To be honest you would be better off with a Jammer for the mobile guns.
As by the time any devise warns you, they have normally got you.
The Valentine one is great because it only warns you when the camera is live therefore on the M25 for example it's not bleeping all the time and you can blast through all cameras and only slow down for the live ones. Not that I do that I do 70MPH tops of course.

Problem is they are about to become illegal (again).

You're right a laser detector is absolutely useless, if it warns you, you have already been nabbed (unless it has picked up laser bounced off the car in front).

Jammers are really not good news to be caught with.
