My father in-law is putting me in charge of liquidating his wine collection. Funniest part, the guy doesn't drink..... Worked in the hotel business for 20 years and every vendor gave him a bottle for a special occasion. Anybody have any advice on where to move this stuff?? Wine has been stored in proper racks in a basement in upstate NY.

I am a wine enthusiast as well...The best thing for you to do is put together an inventory list of the wine then you can see if someone wants to offer you $ for the whole lot...this would be the easiest for you. Another option would be, after you put together the list, we can can all get on a conference call together to see who wants what...I have an 800# that everyone can dial into.

my email is [email protected] or you can call me at 973-884-9161

Look forward to hearing from you!

I'm also interested. Let me know what you plan to do...you can also go the auction route which can be very profitable.

Post a list. What are they? what producer, what year, this will be a good start. If they are good vintages from good producers you should get good money.
Some people will want the lot for next to nothing, only to turn it for big bucks. On the other hand you might be sitting on a whole bunch of plonk! (inferior wines) Just because the wines are old, means nothing unless they have pedigree. The major auction houses will give you an honest appraisal. Good luck!

Guys shoot me off an email and I will send you over the list- [email protected] I'll try to post below.

Keep in mind they were stored properly in racks in a basement in Albany not a wine cellar. Maybe since Todd is so close to me I'll drop off a bottle for him sample. My number was off, there are 375 bottles. Also, we have one full set and one set minus 1 and 2 of the Erte Conac http://home.online.no/~boruud/ert%E9_collection.htm Those into Conac know how expensive these are-these are all boxed and mint. Also have a bottle of Louie. I'll take some pics of the wine racks as well if someone wants them as well.

Nothing of to much value?? You won't hurt my feelings..... He does have 6 bottles of Opus he gave me but I'm keeping those. Real sad thing is- put the Opus on a table next to a beer and I'm going for the Coors. The Erte and Remy Martin Louis XIII are the only things I know are of value. If anyone sees anything they want just let me know. No worries on my end.

    Jim,
At a glance, here's my opinion...In short, the most obvious shortcoming is the boat load of whites and white zins on the list...probably near 150 bottles...all of which are over a decade old and are beyond their maturity. That leaves you with 200+ red wines from all different regions...all of which are are over a decade old yet only a few are reserves, single vineyards, 1st-5th growths, etc...this means a large majority of the wines are also subject to being beyond maturity or really pushing it...especially because 90% of them are not favorable vintages.

Off the top of my head, there are probably under a dozen wines that are valuable.

Give me a call any time and I will give you the full story or I can help you research your list.

    Cheers!

    Todd

Thanks Todd I'll give you a call this week. Maybe the shelves are going to get me more money. Since my father in-law is just dumping all this wine on me even $50.00 is a profit...

At a glance, most of the white wines are over the hill...they are not wines you would cellar, you buy them and drink them. They have very little value.

The red wines, they are drinkeable...but few are really wines of great value or cellarable. I will research the list today and get back in touch. Thanks.

How about EC group purchase of wine + EC Group purchase via PChop of some fine Cuban's + a room full of Sony PSP & Players.....one heck of a good time . Think? :)

or even donated to Dream cars 101 charitable event & tax contribution. I doubt there are too many deserning collegiate palates that would shun a couple bottles of vino won at a 50-50 raffle. No?

I guess it's really sad that an Italian like me has no interest in wine at all......... I've decided to first take my list to a few of the big wine dealers in my area and get a rough value from them and then get back to all those who PM'd me looking to buy.I may be willing to trade for a nice watch if someone has a spare sitting around..... Anybody want to make an offer on the Remy Martin Louis XIII.... Goes great with a cigar I'm told
