Has anyone ever developed a purchase protocol? Basically either a spreadsheet or list of std. questions that could be submitted and whereby the seller can simply fill out and resend?

Neat idea, it could even have a general section for all the usual stuff... Service records, clean title, bodywork, paintwork, then specific sections for models, such as does it have rust "here", does it have new exhaust manifolds, etc to address the weaknesses of particular models.
I'd see it being more useful as a list of questions to ask; I wouldn't expect to get a lot of responses if I started mailing such a thing around to sellers. And of course it's still depenent on the honesty of the seller, but it may save a wasted PPI or worse!

I have a pretty good list of questions that I got years ago when ferraris.com was still around. It was a fairly general PPI sheet for Ferraris but it was as comprehensive as I've seen. If I can find it I could put it in Word form. It wouldn't be too hard to turn into a form that someone could fill out and re-send.

Check out www.tomyang.net. I think there's some prepurchase checklists on there.

I used a checklist I made up to screen potential purchases but don't have it any more.

    Interesting & useful idea!

Please list many format, so people can arrange them for own purchasing purpose. If they are classsified by models, that would be even better.

I did as much research as possible on 328s, then used a list similar to what you mention when I purchased my 328 yrs ago... I used it as an interviewing tool for prospective cars... call it basic buying criteria. It's not that big of a deal (my list, that is)... but it helped me organize my thoughts when I went through the 6 month buying cycle... comparing cars and screening for potential visits. BTW, note my original intent was to buy a non-ABS 328. And I ended up with an '89... oh well. Everything else was exactly as I wanted and made it pretty easy to pull the trigger when I finally found the "right" car.

    Is it red?

    Does it run?

    Can I afford it?

A car just needs 2 out of 3 to pass. But that's just me.
