Where is the best place to buy the kit? I was thinking Ferrari UK, but now just wondering if there is anywhere better. Thanks!

George Evans has them for somewhere around $400.

Yea but as a search on the old fchat said, those are not the real 328 clutches, and personally, I like my stock feel just perfect.

I'm not sure what you mean. They are identical, have all the same markings, etc. Someone way back posted photos of a 'genuine F-clutch' and the George Evans unit.

I read one of the older threads that it was significantly stiffer then the normal 328's.

there's a couple different styles of pressure plates.
around march '81, ferrari changed the design of the
clutch system and the pressure plate to lighten the
    clutch effort.

below is a picture of the old style pressure plate.
note the spring fingers are connected in the center
with that roughly triangular shaped hub.

this is the plate style that I received from george evans,
and also is the one that melanie1 was selling
on ebay. it's the heavy clutch.

I'll post the two TSB's that talk about this clutch and
the mods to the early 308's to lighten things up.

attached are the two TSB's that talk about the
clutch. As far as I know, all '82 and later
    cars used the new clutch.

note also the change to the free play adjust.
with the new style clutch, there is no free play adjust.
the clutch pedal raises as the clutch wears, and you
realign the pedal by adjusting the clutch linkage and/or
    the cable.

Aha! I thought that the G. Evans unit was the newer style.

    Oh well.

I shoulda mentioned, I got the clutch kit from george
evans over a year ago. He may have got a different
batch in since then. I know at least a couple
people have told him it's the wrong pressure plate
    for the "light clutch".

if someone finds out george has the new style,
please post to this thread so people know his
kit (and price) is an option.

GT car parts price for the the equiv (clutch,
pressure plate, TO bearing, and pilot bearing)
was around $75 more than george.
I assume rutlands and ferrari-uk are competitive,
though shipping might be pricey from the other side
    of the pond.

note also that george's kit didn't come with the
three o-rings that seal the bell housing
he had them, but you needed to buy them separately...
and you needed to know you needed them :)

you may also need a new ring nut for the transmission input
    shaft.

My 308 has the 'new style' spring fingers diaphram pressure plate (#115451) described in the TSB earlier in this thread. (See attached picture)

Just looked that P/N up on the Ferrari.UK site & discovered that there's a replacement for it, and for most of the other pressure plat p/ns:

    #121562 V8 CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE
    Unit price: £116.20
    Quantity required: 1
    This part supersedes: 101533, 115451, 119788, 500819

Malcolm, does it have the spring fingers that contact the throwout bearing, or is it configured like the older 110296 pressure plate with a metal center for the diaphram springs? (A picture would be greatly appreciated.)

I recently bought a clutch kit for my 328 from George Evans, it is the later type. George checks the weights of each set he receives and classifies them as standard high and low force, he told me some people like the higher force, I prefered to stay with the standard load/foce. If you have not dealt with George, I can tell you that he is a pleaseure to do business with, very friendly and offers detailed advice freely, he he has some greart cars in his shop also, Lambos, Ferraris, Jags etc.

I just installed an Evans clutch kit on my 85 QV. They were very nice to deal with but I will say the clutch is much stiffer than it was before. I expected it to be somewhat stiffer as I know my old pressure plate is used and therefore they will wear over time and get easier to release. I also cleaned and lubed everything pertaining to the clutch (pullies, pivoting arms, etc.) while I was in there and replaced the clutch cable also. To be honest it is much stiffer than I would have liked. It isn't as stiff as my carb 308 but it is in the ballpark. It is not an OEM clutch kit. I compared the kit with my stock unit and they weren't the same. YMMV.

Yes, I have my old pressure plate and pics of the new one. I can get some part #'s off of my OEM clutch PP. The one from Evans didn't have a part # on them nor a name of any type. I paid around $399 for the clutch kit from Evans. This included PP, Clutch disc, TO-bearing and Pilot Bearing. I would have went with an OEM clutch kit if I knew what the difference would have been. IMHO the OEM clutch kit is worth the extra $$$ (approx. $80-100 more). This is my opinion and I am not in anyway putting down the Evans company or the like. I thought they were very nice to deal with and very helpful. I am just a little disappointed in the clutch kit even for the price.
I am a perfectionist and notice even the slightest differences when it comes to my Ferraris. So, like I said before YMMV.

Since Malcolm posted a pix of #115451, I asked for a price on it.

    Unfortunately this was his response:

"The one (#115451) I pictured is a pattern that we keep in case we decide to
re-manufacture, sadly all we have to offer is the later cover #121562."

    Tnx Malcolm...
    I have what I'm pretty sure is a 121562, was hoping to get a 115451 & sell the '562...

    hey 308 gts,

I recently replaced my clutch cable(328gts) with one from Dennis Mccann and the clutch seems a lot stiffer. In my case it must be from the new cable(liked the old one better, seemed like thinner strand and better housing, but it was fraying) since I did not replace anything else. Just a thought that it might be your new cable since you replaced that at the same time as your clutch.

I can't seem to find a spec for the max allowable 308/328 flywheel runout. My flywheel measured a max of 0.003"/0.075mm runout at one spot on the circumference. Suspect slight cupping as max runout was at the same spot at inner & outer edges & middle of the disc area.

Seemed excessive to me, so it's being machined, but still wondered if there was a spec I couldn't find.

    Verell,

Checked through a whole pile of manuals, all it gives is a maximum wear measurment of 0.8mm and a surface roughness value - no run out figures, which probably means that Ferrari says there shouldn't be any run out.

I went thru most of the same manuals: 308GT4,308GTi, 308QV/328 , & 328 tech specs before posting, w/ same results.

    UH HUH,RIGGGHHHTT,
'no runout': Ain't no such thing, just your meas't eqpt's ability to measure it...
Most dial indicators have 0.001" divisions, & when in good shape w/ a calibrated eyeball meas'ts can be estimated repeatably down to about ~0.0002". Few flywheel grinders get a surface uniformly smoother than that, or can hold the flywheel's mounting surface parallel to their plane of rotation much better than that. I'll be satisfied if it' well under 0.001", hope for ~0.0005", & ecstatic if it's less than ~0.0003".

Think I better measure the runout of the crank's flywheel mounting surface first. Will be surprised if it's got much less than 0.0005" runout itself.
