my cousin got pulled over for going 37 mph in a 45 zone, cop followed him from three cars behind squeezed in between me and him since I was behind him and pulled him over, said he was going to slow.......this is in Waldo Florida (between Jacksonville and Gainesville)the worst speed trap in the US. They have a cop there that's called the silver Bullet cause of his car and legend, AAA will purposely make you drive 1 hour out of the way when you get a triptik from them just to avoid this place

There's absolutely no excuse for such an abuse of power. It makes me sick.

Many, many moons ago (okay -- 1968), three friends and I were driving back to upstate NY from spring break in Florida. We had just crossed over the Florida/Georgia boarder, driving in a line of traffic behind a semi, when out of nowhere a southern cop who looked like he just stepped out of "Smokey and the Bandit" pulled us over (car had Jersey plates, of course). We got the classic "you boyz are in biggggg trouble" as he pulled the guy who was driving out of the car, cuffed him, and threw him in the back of the patrol car. We had to follow him back to town and post $500 bail to get our friend out. It took hours to scrap together the money by calling parents to get a Western Union money transfer. We sprung him with the warning from the cop, "if you don't come back to fight it, the $500 is your fine.... and you DON'T want to come back."

The best one, though was a ticket I got in Ithaca, NY, near Cornell. Driving in a line of traffic, I got pulled over by a cop who cut into line. I said, "but officer, I was doing the speed limit, 45, like all the other cars ahead of me." He say "No, you were speeding. I had to do 60 to catch up with you." Wrote me a ticket for doing 60. I asked him how that could be, me doing 60 if he caught up to me doing 60 himself. He didn't understand the math concept there. Fought that one and lost. So much for being a college kid in Upstate NY in the late '60s/early '70s.

thats dumb, sounds like you can get off on 5th Ammendment bcus of an Unconstitutional seizure. Cops need to have a reason before they pull you over. He cant just pull you over then make something up

Actually, it's the 4th amendment that's unreasonable search and seizure. As for stopping a car for no reason and "making up" something, when it's you against the cop and you're a college kid and he's a veteran cop, and you're from out of town and he's local, who do you think is going to win in front of the local town judge? Unfortunately, that's the real world.

Isn't it great that we have mini Adolf Hitlers walking around on our streets.

There are many good, fine cops, but it saddens me to say that the majority of them, and I would say 90% of those under the age of 40, are mini Adolf Hitlers. They'll do the most ruthless things imaginable.

There's no way to stop them. There is no mechanism in place that says they have to PROVE something.

We are all at their mercy. There is nothing to stop a cop from carrying a bag of cocaine/heroin/what-have-you around with him and accuse you of possessing it when he takes you down to the police station. With the snap of a finger, you are in possession of narcotics.

And whether or not the charges are eventually dropped, you'll still be spending the night (if not more time) in jail. And when the prosecutors or whoever discover that a mistake has been made, guess what: nothing happens to the police officer, and no compensation is given to you as the law-abiding, tax-paying citizen that you are.

The only way to stop it is to REQUIRE BY LAW that each and every police officer be carrying a voice recording device that stays on while he interacts with a citizen. In that ideal world, the judge (or the police captain at the station) would say, where is the tape recording? And if the cop can't produce it, the charges are dismissed. Period. Unless there is some other physical evidence.

This nonsense of word against word and the cop always winning has got to stop. This is the United States of America, not Nazi Germany or Stalinist Russia.
