It seems the H shifter in my 308 dried out over the winter: When moving it sideways or back/forth it makes some screeching sounds. Any advice on what to pour into it? I'd just drip some WD-40 down into the H. Comments?

    Andreas-

Can you be more specific; are you talking about the gear shift lever?

If WD-40 hasn't solved the problem; you can drop by Ed's on Wed. nite after 6PM.

Wed. night we usually work on our own cars, and just kind of hang out drinking beer. :)

Let me know if you want to come by.

Skip, not sure how I can be more specific: The linkages just below the chromed H plate are cranking. They're very sticky as if dried up so any movement of the shift stick is followed by a slight screech.

But it sounds like you're not opposed to WD-40 so I'll give it a shot.

May just need a good cleaning. A lot of crud gets in there since there's no boot for the shifter.

Take off the shift gate and see if you can clean things up a bit.

    Thanks, will do.

Just talked to Dave who recommended White Grease over WD-40.

Took the shifter plate off today and started digging. Unreal all the dirt that has accumulated in there. Aside from some of Luigi's cigarette butts and Enzo's purple ink pen there was half a cat of fur. It felt like cleaning out some public toilet's plumbing.

Well anyway, it's all clean and greased now. No more noise. Maybe you guys want to check out your shifter, you'll be surprised at all the gunk you'll find in there.

Well, the gremlins just hopped over to the other car: Just walked back after I had to emergency drop it off at a car shop. The fun never stops. At least the engine came back to life after half a year of being mothballed.

348 has a gator that surrounds the gear lever. Can be made to fit 308 and stop "foreign matter" going in there.

You should get that car to Ed too. If it's not drivable, arrangements can be made to have it flat bedded to him.

It got fixed and drives again. It needs a ton of TLC, detail work and some real Vette tinkering (3 point belt conversion, A/C etc). You think Ed is up to speed on old Vettes? It's one thing to work on the engine of a Ferrari, but hey it is brain surgery to fix up a Vette.

Chevy Smallblocks are as easy as Lawnmower engines....:) Basically the same since the early 1950's when they came out. Let me have a Look at her sometime. Also, look in those Corvette Parts Catalogs that you are probably getting by now for parts.

Speaking of Small Block Chevy Motors....I saw one of those "Boss Hoss" Motorcycles yesterday, that has one of those engines in it. Unbelievable...a Big,Car Engine in a Motorcycle. That Gas Tank was almost 2 Ft. wide! It's gotta be heavy.

The engine is fine, it's the stuff around the engine, that has issues. I think that part is called "the car".
    :)

And it's not the Chevy parts that need fixing, if you catch my drift.

Very much so, Ed knows old Corvettes. He's done mechanical restorations on a few.

It's like one-stop shopping when you bring your car to Ed. We also have a friend that does excellent body and paint work, if it needs it.

Give Ed a call; I'm sure he can have everything taken care of!
