Long story short: My wife and I saw a dog on the side of a very busy road the other day, and be brought it home. We put up "found, etc" signs, and we have placed a "found" ad in the local paper. It is a Jack Russell terrier puppy. We took it to the vet for a check up, and he is very healthy, and the vet estimates 10-12 weeks old. He is probably not purebread, probably a mix of a couple of terriers (fox terrier and jack russell, perhaps). It has now been a week. Pets are allowed in our apartment complex, subject to $500 in fees (which would be an insurmountable hardship for us right now). We just moved into this apartment less than a month ago. Henry is a very sweet dog, but terriers are not good apartment dogs, and we can't afford to keep him. He has to stay in our bathroom all day (I work 10+ hour days/ 6 days/week). Today my wife worked all day as well, and this is what we came home to: We don't have the heart to take him to a shelter, though there is a "no-kill" shelter here in town we are discussing (I doubt my wife will go for it). wow what a mess! those are hyperactive little dogs! especially at that age. Its nice of you to take it in, and to the vet and all. You'd better act quickly though. Little puppies will grow on you...FAST...and then u'll have a new best friend and permanent resident. Hopefully there is an owner out there who will come across one of your postings. Good Luck
I'm not sure I want to go. I'm thinking I wan to own/operate small businesses. I landed a six-month stint as a GM of a small, upscale sub shop, and told the owner I'll tell him by August if I'm going to Law school or staying with him. If I stay, I get "sweat equity" in this business, and I'll probably open up a few of my own shops in the next few years.
Cute dog!! I wonder if you can fedex an animal? My girlfriend would love him!! (and she would love me..wink)..Hi baby!
First and foremost, Jack Russel, or Parson's terriers are busy little dogs. And from the face, there's a lot of JR in that dog. They need lots of room and are not suitable for an apartment life. The dog will go insane, and will chew through everything you own getting to the point of insanity for you, too. Second, unless you crate train him, like now, you won't have anything left for him to chew on in about a week. So you have a doggie dilema my friend. Parson's need room to run, and work to do, neither of which he will get in your apartment. You'd be better off with a mastiff, who would lounge around all day waiting for someone to come home, and be perfectly happy. That little dog will not be happy, and waits for no man. If the shelter is a no kill shelter, someone who can make a better home for it will come along. Or, quick run out and find a terrier rescue, who can place it for you. RIGHT NOW. http://dogs.about.com/cs/rescue/a/rescue_jrt.htm Remember, they jump well too, so putting stuff up on counters will not make them puppy safe. And they are smart as hell too. Great dogs, a little hyper unless kept very busy with things to do, and will chew, chew, chew. This is a farm dog, not an apartment dog. Dave M.
Ill tell you one thing, he is cuuuuuutttteeeee. Im not gay, not that there is anything wrong with that.
hmmm If there is a way to get him to Boston, I'll take the little guy. I have a big yard, grandmother lives in an in-law apartment and is home all day, and everyone in my family LOVES dogs. He'd be company to an old Dalmatian that is good as gold, although I'd probably bring him to work with me every day and let him run around the offices and drive everyone nuts.
I would take him but im never home enough and plus I own two other dogs already. A 13 year old Female Yorkshire Terrier and a 9 year old Male Chihuahua (mean little shyt too). Good luck and hopefully you will find someone soon.
A word of caution... these dogs have what we call an "extended puppyhood". In other words, they run full-speed for about 15 years. Trust me, I'm on year 11 with mine... Best 11 years of my life -- constant energy, happiness to see me, playtime, goofy looks, walks, etc. "God loves the terrier."
My girlfriend had to give away her JRT after it would routinely try its best to off itself on her ranch/farm. Her family didn't want any blood on their hands if they left it alone for a day. I'm thinking a single family home with a large backyard would be best. If you were local I might take it just to keep my large dog from sleeping 20 hours a day. -Chris
I looked around and it seems there are a bunch of companies that ship animals, even some of the airlines do it. If Ike is interested in the little guy, it may be better for the dog since he is local - what do you think? If he can't take him or doesnt want him, let me know and I will check into the cost and make the arrangements. He would love my place - I have a fenced in 1/2 acre yard with trees, a hill, grass and all that good stuff. I own the company I work at so its no problem bringing him into work either So he'd never be left alone which is important during puppyhood. I hear you guys on saying the extended childhood thing - I got my brother an Italian Greyhound for his b-day 3 years ago and his dog is STILL nutso! I was going to get him a Jack Russell but I couldnt find one in time. Everyone in my family are 'dog people' and he would be VERY well taken care of here Probably live out his life like a king!
That dog IS damn cute! If you want to keep the little pup and can get nine other FChatters to kick in on the $500, I'll mail you $50 of it in a heartbeat (Along with a few dozen rolled up newspapers!). PeterS PS: I think I found that dog's father! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've had two labs for three years now (labs love to chew ****), and over that time I've became pretty good at dog-proofing a room, but you can only go so far. for the record, a dog can eat flooring.
My Lab mix is just getting out of her chewing stage. I can't believe how fast she can go through those teeth cleaning bones.
