And, ideally, the government doesn't have to do anything except publish the conviction to achieve that. How many blue chips want to hire an embezzler executive?

Justice is not vengence. The purpose of justice is "reparation and restraint" (John Locke). Stole $750K in public money: Reparation = give it back. Restraint comes in two flavors, preventing this individual from repeating his crime (canned as CEO, unable to get a trusted position), and deterring others from repeating a similar crime: Seeing a colleague go from "have the cook make lobster for lunch" to "you want fries with that" may give execs pause.

Certainly someone slinging hash is in a better position to pay back stolen money than someone trying to hang onto the soap in a box.

Someone with nothing to lose on the streets may require a different form of correction, but prisons are not the one and only answer.

Alas, our "justice" system is a disgrace -- not the police, in general, or even the courts, for the most part. But our "correctional facilities" are nothing of the sort. A prison sentence these days tends to turn criminals into violent criminals -- a measure of the violence inside our prisons. We've returned to the days of Coventry or Botany Bay -- simply dumping the "undesirables" into enclosures viewed as "outside" the society, with no consideration to returning such individuals to society. "Rehabilitation" is only a buzz word used by parole boards to ease prison crowding.

The courts may be reacting (with the knee-jerk "to siberia with 'em" solution) to an increased tolerance by corporations of white collar crime. Such corporate tolerance may be a reaction to increased regulation and prosecution, spurred, in a government which reflects public views, by the view that every success is prima facie evidence of "cheating" (a view favored by those not burdened by success).

"Every bad law detracts from the good ones". Anyone who is trying to sell you a simple answer to a complex problem is either an idiot, or someone who thinks that you are. And the cumulative effect of politicians selling simple answers has no good destination.

I also remember reading about Paul Frame when his cars (and him) were on the cover of Forza #15... this was the issue with the 328 Buyers Guide. He not only had the yellow F50 but also a red F40 and they were comparing the two in the article. The license plate on the F50 read F-FIFTY and the one on the F40 read 2DIE4.

Wow, to have so much and lose it all... amazing.

I was at that house back in 91 or 92 for a debutante party for his daughter (I was dating one of her friends). I saw something there that made an impression on me to this day. In his study was a picture of himself and Reagan (after he left office). The picture was taken in that front yard!
Now getting a picture with a president while he is visiting your city is one thing but getting him over to your house too?!
People like him don't have to steal. The sky is the limit if they want it without doing anything that is wrong. I'll never understand it.

I'm new here but I am surprised at the narrow mindedness of statements such as:
There are tons of legal ways to earn a good living.

Don’t knock people that have achieved more than you or lump them all in the same basket as this crook because they also happen to display a certain amount wealth. If someone cuts a corner most of the time they will pay in one way or an other.

Such justifications for shortcomings are for losers and underachievers trying to explain to themselves why someone else has an Enzo and his budget only permits him a 400 (to put it in terms this board understands).

Envy sucks and other people’s achievements should serve as motivating factors to get going not a springboard for criticism, or a diatribe on how he cut corners cause he has what you want and cannot afford. Notwithstanding I’m sure those thoughts here are part of the minority.

I knew him similarly, same for Ken Lay. A businessman should have common manners down pat. Someone entrusted with the money and livelihoods of stockholders and many employees should have far more than fresh minty breath. Integrity and reponsibility does not include paying for ones race cars with corporate money, paying off mistresses you handcuffed to beds and/or forced to wear furry suits, or buying your wife a million-dollar birthday party.
He was NOT a gentleman, he was a snake with good social graces, the most dangerous kind, and he, Ken, Bernie E, et al need to suffer in squalor.
Pay back is a must, but it rarely happens. Rehabilitation isn't very common either, but hope springs eternal.
I would rather have someone be honest and rude, than gracious and lie. Most of us who do have integrity(or strive for it anyway) would not usurp our hard won gains for self. Good does come back tenfold, it just takes a hell of a long time.

I knew Paul Frame personally back when I lived in Texas and he was nothing but gracious...Me being a young kid he did everything he could to support my passion for Ferrari. Even while being the CEO of his company he would still take the time to take phone calls from me while at work. I have some auto magazines that did articles on Frame and his F50 when he first took delivery and he even signed them for me :) So it is a bit shocking to me, but I guess he deserved what he got.

Yes, I know what you say is true...

I try to always look on the postive side of things and find it so hard to believe that someone I once respected perhaps was not worthy of my admiration. I think more for myself than out of any true friendship with Paul, I would like to remember him as I met him, not as I know him now....
