There was a thread a very long time ago about somebody in SoCal who was trying to get a real F50 chrome plated. I don't have time to search for it right now, it may have been on the old board.

The Carrera look's like a model sitting on a piece of wood in the grass.

NOBODY HAS MENTIONED AS YET THE LEGALITY OF THESE CARS.

THE A8 ABOVE WAS LAUNCHED SOME YEARS AGO AT GENEVA I THINK AND THERE WAS MUCH TALK OF THE FACT IT WAS NOT A ROAD GOING CAR DUE TO THE REFLECTION OF THE BODYWORK.

CAN ANYONE CONFIRM THAT ANY OF THE ABOVE CARS ARE ACTUALLY ROAD LEGAL (APART FROM THE MODELS)?

I WOULD BE VERY SURPRISED IF SO...

    REGARDS,

    M

I believe j15 posted the paint that I was gonna mention. There is a special paint that is relatively new being used to give the "illusion" of a chrome finish. I can't imagine the price to get a spray job with this process done. If the finish is not perfectly flat, then it ruins the whole idea. So, meticulous preparation, perfect application, and a very keen eye wet sanding, buffing, polishing, etc.

Relatively sure the SL600 is street legal- can confirm with Nitto if you're that interested.

I believe you're right. Most are just brushed aluminum w/ over a dozen clear coats.

To be honest i'd probably prefer a colour to the above if i had a choice but it is a good effect if wanting a vehicle with a difference.

It would be interesting to find out Nitto's answer to the legality of the merc as i just cant see it being legal. It would blind everybody within a mile if the sun was out!!

    Regards,

    M

The chrome cars are amzing, I actauly think they look pretty good. How much does it cost to have real full-job chrome plating on a car?
