Been shopping for the last month or so for a new toy. Went to a wonderful local shop and expanded my knowledge about F-Cars helping whether to go for a 3x8 car or a 512 and all the associated commitments...

Tried this '74 365 bb with 21k km on it rode super solid and car is fully restored spotless. Also tried a 1983 512 bbi and a '76 308 GTB Fiberglass.

Had tried 308's and 328 bevore but it was my first drives in rear engined v-12s. Steve pointed out the diff's between the 365 & 512 as it relates to single plate clutch for the 365 besides twin disk for 512's also the body lenghts are different so is the width. We parked both cars bside on another and could tell easily the subtle differences.

    Notwithstanding a very educational morning.

Anyone with toughts on these models let me know please. I am now focusing toward 512bb or bbi since this excellent shop is literally in my backyard.

can you please post your impressions?

i own a bbi and went through a similar exercise when prior to purchase. i ended up getting a bbi.

why are you leaning to the 512?

I test drove all three type Boxers back in 2003 when I was looking and went with the BB512i because of its ease of driving and more bottom end punch. Since I do almost 100% of my driving on the street, high revs and top speed are not nearly as important as being able to drive the car in comfort as often as possible. Now with the MSD iginition and coil, it runs even better than before.

I would love a 365BB . I am happy with BBi for its ease of driving compared with earlier models but brute looks and raw power /sound - did i mention SOUND! the 365 will make you happy happy !!!

What is the asking price for the blue 365 Boxer? I believe this car has been for sale for quite some time.

    Isn't the blue car a 512BB? and not a 365? I thought the 365 was a front engined V12. I would love a carbed 512bb for myself. Hopefuly someday.

Good luck with your choise and enjoy!

I have no impressions of any of them except the visuals you've given us but that blue boxer-trim 365 looks absolutely magnificent. Almost makes me want to go out and kick my 348 spider...

    ...nice dilemma you've got.

    Cheers

I had no idea they made two differ'nt 365's one front engined and one mid engined. Well this does change things for me. Now a 365BB may be my new dream car of the future. I was thinking of a 512BB. I can see why you may have a hard time deciding. Good thing you had first hand experiance compairing the two. I would like to know more about the differences you experianced if you have time to go into greater detail. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post here. Allthough there may be more folks interested as I am about your experiance with the two cars. :)

The front engine 365GTB/4 is also known as the Daytona. It was replaced by the first boxer, the 365BB. You can tell a 365BB by the triple exhaust and taillights, and the lack of a NACA duct in front of the rear wheels. Beautiful cars! The 365BB is quite rare and would be my choice of the three.

Are these pictures of the actual cars you drove? All from the same shop/area?

Those pictures of the blue BB just cured my headache. Thank you ever so much!

Quite honestly - one of the few Ferraris I would like to actually own.

The 365 and 308 pics are the ones I drove. The pics of the 308 were from what the shop have on their web site. The 512 is the picture of a similar car like the one I tried as I mentioned on the post.

Yes, but what everyone is waiting for (with baited breath I might add) is your driving impressions of the three and why you are favoring the 512...

The 365BB is definitely more unique, rarer and "rawer" than a 512BB or i.

But, it just depends on how much you plan on driving the car that you purchase.

If you are planning on driving it quite often and doing various club events, overnight trips, etc.... then a 512BBi would win in my book.

They are just more driver friendly than a 365BB. No need to worry about overheating problems or dealing with that heavy clutch pedal in stop and go traffic situations. The 512s massive amount of torque is great to have on tap going slow or fast.

I've logged about 8,000 miles in my 512BBi in the 1-1/2 years since I bought it.

It's an absolute joy to drive!
