Ferrari's "new Dino"============

While ago, I was asking any information on this car on another thread, as I also heard & read about smaller Ferrari being proto-typed at the factory. If there's enough rumors, there gotta be some activity going on at Ferrari.

I don't know it's feasible, but it surely is reasonable for Ferrari to consider expanding their line from business point of view. They have certain numbers of customers constantly waiting for their cars. Due to many exotics available now, Ferrari could realize they're losing some potential customers.

I don't know Ferrari should make their cars readily available for customers, as that seems the charm/myth for some customers, too. However, it is reasonable for them to expand their line to 6, 8, 10, or 12 cylinders.

 

What Ferrari needs to do is offer a car that ranges in the 65k-75k range, to compete with Porsche sales. I don't care what it is powered by, a 250HP V-6 even, yet for the common sports car consumer, it would give them a choice, and a realistic choice at that. A "brand new" Porsche, or for a few grand more, a "brand new" Ferrari. It doesn't have to be mass produced like the 308/328 was, but flood the market for a few years with this, have everyone else hurting!

 

Seems to me to be a 'rebadged' and reworked Maserati with the appropriate Ferrari markup. Sorry and all.

 

Wasn't there a major magazine quote "The Italan's just tossed $90 million in development cost, out the window by spinning Maserati off to Fiat"?

A week later we learn that new Maserati development is frozen.

A week later we hear that Ferrari might have a all new car

You can put a Maserati sticker on that car and sell it for $70k .....or put a Ferrari/Dino sticker on that car and sell it for a $140k all day long.

Maybe someone is trying to get their $90 million back?
( a ferrari sticker cost $1.15 and you'd get $70,000 extra profit per 'rebadged' car sold... so after 1,500 units you'd have your $90million back)

BRILLIANT! Ferrari is going to make MILLIONS on their new Maserati... er, um, i mean Dino.

i still feel for the guys who bought the first year USA Maser spider. That chassis flexed worse than Stretch Armstrong!

 

Interesting analogy... I read all the same quotes you did. If an entry level Ferrari goes into production in the future where does that leave Maserati? The Quattroporte is a wonderful car and with the new V-12/auto tranny it will make the car more accessible to others. But how can a manufacturer survive with one car? I think if Maser drops the spyder and coupe' than there will definitely be a Maser SUV in the future but I guess that is for another thread.

 

Maserati will have new Coupe and Spiders based on the Alfa Romeo Brera platform, and both Maser and Alfa will have their own SUV (based on the Kubang/Kamal concepts)..especially as it's vital for the U.S. market (their main target).

 

so what's all this talk from Ferrari the last 10 years that Ferrari will always be a limited production, higher cost line? A lower-cost model like this will blow that statement out the window. Of course, JT and Luca said it while Maserati was still in the fold.

 

hmm...i cant say i like it or hate it.....but its "interesting!"

what i would change bout it is the 612 rear....its too soft because the front is very aggressive. but thats just my opinion.

i DO see some ferrari DNA in it..but not as much as previous models

it reminds of the G35 and the jaguar grill w/ f430 lights modded...

Now the 575 competizione (sp) is what i call perfect form!

 

With Lamborghini reviving their Espada (4-door fastback) and an SUV (LM's successor), Aston Martin reviving their 4-door saloon, the Lagonda (see article here : http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=92344&an=0&page=0#92344) and Porsche already has an SUV and soon a 4-door sedan too, I really can see Ferrari having a new, cheaper, front-engined model. At least it won't have four doors!!

Ferrari plans to launch a new entry-level car -- the 21st century Dino, if you like -- according to this week's Autocar. The car will be powered by a Maserati-sourced 400bhp 4.2-litre engine, mid-front mounted and driving the rear wheels through a rear axle-mounted transmission.

The engine position is similar to that in Aston Martin's 911-killer, the V8 Vantage. And given the price, the new baby Ferrari looks like being an intriguing competitor.

It'll cost some £85,000 as a coupé, and sources say that it could lift Ferrari sales by some 3,000 to around 8,000. This suggests that Ferrari is the last of the big premium car marques to indulge in brand extension -- something its rivals have been happy to indulge in but which Ferrari has so far eschewed.

if you bought a Jan-Feb 05 Maserati you have a Maser/Ferrari
if you bought a March-April 05 Maserati you have a Maser/Fiat
if you buy the next generation Maserati that was cancelled in April 05, you will have a Ferrari

The market is a lot smaller than anyone thinks. The generation growing up now will have a lot of cheap hardware to choose from in 5-10 years...

 

So basically you can buy a Maserati used for $55k or so, or get the <cough> 'improved/badge' Ferrari for $160k. Wow, i am perplexed as to why they added $60k to the price of a new Maser (rebadged to Ferrari). Would enjoy knowing where the $60k went to. For $60k you could buy a new Lotus and have thousands of $$$$ in spare change!

 

Looks pretty good, much better than the scag and the new 575m based on the scag....

Is it going to be badged a Dino or a Ferrari? I am interested in it as a Dino but not as a Ferrari.

Man that rear end is ugly. Makes the gallardo rear look like a supermodel!

 

I'll have to buy that Autocar magazine. I'm not crazy about the looks but I like the idea of a ''new Dino".

 

From all that I've seen and heard, I'm inclined to think that this car may not be "a new Dino", but in fact may be the Maranello replacement, which has been described, as this car has, as a "shortened 612". I've seen it referred to as the "620 Monza" (or 630 in some places).

 

I agree, it doesn't look like it's worth any 160k:maby the 90k to 120k range.

I don't see another 160k car increasing sales to 8000/yr. That is what my 355F1 cost in 98. My 360 was at 200k. If price is to drive up sales then it must be sub 100k for sure. The dealers would love it . They may loose Maser sales but the margin is bigger on these F cars I bet.
