Don't hold your breath on this one, if it's like any of the other numerous times he's been asked to respond to his posting crap. Reason? He doesn't have to because he's exempt from answering by reason of being an attorney and taking the fifth.

Sorry Sunny, but I'm going to have to defend Art on this one. It sounds like what he did was legal. I know of many people who do the same thing.

Do you know anyone that will pay a tax when he knows of a legal way to get around it? I sure as hell wouldn't. I don't think that it matters which side of the political fence you lean on. We all want to pay the minimum in taxes that we can. That's why people spend buco bucks on accountants each year.

So, it's really none of your business.

Dom, all you need to do is call your DMV and ask if you can't understand the written laws.

Point was, Art was soo sure he was correct. My point is, no, he's not.

You make it everyone's business when you proclaim it in a chat room, "I got around my taxes because of x,y,z."

You and I don't do these things, most of the membership here doesn't. Art did. I'll call this a momentary lapse of judgement on your part (thats a joke)!

Hey, I'm not flaming!!! I am proud to consider Sunny in my circle of Fchat friends.

I posted based on what I have inferred from reading the various posts about art. From the linked post, I don't see any info that Art is incorrect. Furthermore, I infer the following:

1) Art, like everyone of us, would like to avoid paying taxes
2) Art is a lawyer, and thus knows the law better than the average joe
3) Art also should understand the consequences of breaking the law

I would guess from the above that what Art is trying to do is legal. You could argue the ethics and what not based on his liberal leanings (but why bother, we all want to pay less taxes), but I don't know that you can argue the legality without more details.

I hope that clarifies things a little.

By the way, it has a rosewood neck.

I use heavy strings, as it really brings out the tone. Girlie-men shouldn't use heavy strings.

I would register the car in Oregon where there is no sales tax. I would also rent a cottage by the water, and keep the car there. That provides you with a reason for registration of the vehicle in Oregon (a valid one) and I'd use the cottage. That way you had a REAL reason for the out of California registration, and if California were to attempt to collect the tax, calling the out of State registration an attempt to evade California Tax, you have a valid reason for what you did. While the statute says 90 days, I would keep the car out a little longer than required.
