Racecar!

I am getting a racecar! I have worked a deal to trade my '00 Boxster S for this beast.

1974 Porsche RSR (built from an '82 tub). The car will have a Dave White racing built 3.4L twin plug, 50mm PMO carbs engine putting out about 340hp. The car weighs just under 2100lb. I will be racing it in PCA, HSR and NASA events throughout the southeast! All f-chat folks are invited to attend and hang out!

I cannot wait to get in the drivers seat of this thing!


Oh well. I tried for 20 minutes to resize the freaking pic. It posted fine at another board but Ill be danged if it will post here. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Rossa for what?

First of all, congrats!!!
Second, resize that pic down to 640x480 so you can post it!!! I wanna see!!!

 

I tried again to resize it.... no idea how. When I do it, it crops the photo so only the top left corner shows which is sky. The file is only 56kb in size, but apparently still too large.

I have posted it on other boards with no problem. If anyone knows how to resize them to fit whatever is required here PM me, I'll email it.

911's make fantastic race cars they are extremely durable. What are the estimated specs for that car, 0-60 top speed etc?

2100lb and 340hp. The car runs 14" rear slicks and 11" front. It has a 915 gearbox with Guard Transmission LSD, a tall first gear, tall second gear and short 3,4,5. Top speed is probably between 150-155, limited by the short 5th gear. For the tracks I will run, thats all the straight anyhow so its better to have the short gears to improve acceleration out of the corners. No idea on 0-60, its a worthless stat relative to racing. This car should turn lap times at Road Atlanta in the 1:32-1:35 range. To put that in perspective, the new Porsche GT3 factory cup racecars turn similar times. They have more power, better aero and better suspension geometry but they weigh more and put far less tire on the road.

That brings back memories of Group 4 Camel GT/ IMSA race cars... what a thing of beauty! It you mind me asking, what does it cost to get into a sled like that?

That is a REAL Porsche! There weren't any bells and whistles (like traction control, AWD, paddle shifters, etc... hell ABS was just coming on to the scene back then) on those cars to save your a$$. Driver skill was king. Drivers like Folmer, Gregg, Haywood and Holbert were legends of that era.

Now I am dating myself...

back on topic, now that i own every freaking Porsche 911 book that books a million had, Terry's RSR 911 seems even more special! if this purple jelly bean of a 911 i have turns out to be a keeper , me thinks she shall be painted pontiac Starlight Black.........


Terry, REALLY COOL 911. i would love to see more pics of yours, as i need inspiration to "save" this one that found me!

 

A well prepared and fresh RSR clone such as the one I am getting seems to sell in the $45K - $65K range. HUGE bang for the buck!

They are not however beginner race cars. Experience in a 911 with less horsepower and tire on the road is a very good idea. Driving a 911 on the limit is very rewarding and fun, but it takes some getting used too. Not a bad thing or any sort of devilish skill required, just seat time and slowly building up speed so you become familiar and comfortable with how the car is going to react. Autocross is a great way to learn to drive a 911 fast.

reaper.... what did you get? I have owned many 911s and I have a '69 911S hotrod in addition to the RSR coming.
