I asked the following question over on the Classic section, but got no responses, so I'll ask it here:

I'm taking my '84 Mondial QV in next week for an alignment. I have the manual, so I've got the "stock" specs for the alignment. I'm going to be taking the car to Watkins Glen in May, Lime Rock in June and July, and Pocono a couple of times. Any suggestions on tweaking the alignment or suspension to get better performance/handling on the track? BTW, I just put in new bushings, shocks, wheel bearings, etc.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Steve, I'm only a layman, but seems that in general, Ferrari alignment specs are agressive enough already. Seem most people end up backing off on the toe and neg camber specs to improve tire wear for typical street driving. Seems to me if you use the factory specs, you should be fine for occaisional track use.

I track my 308QV usually three or four times a year, and I use the stock alignment settings.

    Hi Steve,

You can leave rear stock for an occasional track warrior but the Mondials really respond to a bit of negative camber on the front. You are limited to the length of the thread on the lower front suspension pick up points but try to aim for about a degree of negative camber with a whiff of total toe in, say 1-2mm, that will be fine on the street and track as a resonable compromise. Let us know how you get on.

Just got back from the shop. I talked to the tech there, who has a lot of experience with the older Ferraris. We did exactly as Carl had suggested, albeit before reading Carl's post. He dialed in about 1 degree neg. camber and a very teeny bit of toe in up front, and left the rear stock. He said this is the best setup as a compromise between street and track.

Driving back, I could feel the difference in handling on the turns. Very crisp tracking. I'll let you know how it does on the track -- I'll be at Watkins Glen with the FCA on May 4 and 5.

    Regards,
    Steve
