Any of you law-abiding citizens out there use a front license plate on a Mondial? I'm getting ready to finally register ours after the winter major and it has nothing even resembling a front license plate bracket or any place to attach one. I'm looking for fabrication ideas! Thanks in advance.

(On the 308, I just keep it under the front seat! Looks like crap on a 308, but I'm trying to be more law abiding with the Mondial!)

IIRC, the mondial's did not have a bracket. I have seen other local members user tiewraps to fasten the plates.

Have you check on the owners site to see if one was ever offered and to see the mounting location?

Tie-wrap it on. Put some soft tape on the back so it won't scratch the grille.

Or, will send you pix of my spare Rx7 plate bracket. Easy to make 1 out of 1/2" wide/3/32" thick Al or steel bar from local HW store. If steel bar, paint it with POR15/powdercoat/Rustoleum...

Has L-shaped brackets, bottom of the L fits under the bumper or spoiler lip.
Drill holes for T-nuts thru bottom of spoiler, insert from back side (can epoxy/fibreglass in place. Then 2 screws & it's on/off. Meant to do it when I redid my spoiler last time, but couldn't find the $#@$% bracket then. Found it immediately after the spoiler was on the car of course.

DUDE! WTF? I had the exact same query from a customer yesterday... must be something in the water.

From what i can tell, there is no "offical" US-version front license plate bracket. I'm getting my hands on the following parts, to see what can be done:

    61721400 Euro plate bracket
    15687978 Screw for bracket
14201980 Block to attach to bracket
    60987900 U.S. Plate holder

Even with this stuff, it won't look as neat & tidy as running without a front tag, but at least it might be "original". Has anyone used these OEM brackets on their car? I *do not* think drilling will be necessary -- it looks like the special blocks (14201980) will clamp around the lower grill.

    Thoughts?

This must be a T or 3.2. The QV has only on grille.

I hate to drill holes, but I suppose that is the only answer. Or just put it under the front seat!

Verell, my local inspection guy (who is VERY forgiving about most small stuff) says that you can't use zip ties. The law in MA says that the plate must be firmly and permanently attached, and zip ties do not qualify as such.

I built a temporary bracket for the 308 that clamps to the grille, but I use it only for the inspection, then take it off. It looks terrible to have a front plate on a 308, and frankly, the cooling system needs all the help it can get. The Mondial on the other hand seems to have more real estate up front, and I don't think the plate will compromise cooling or aesthetics if done right.

Check out this thread for instructions on cleanly mounting a license plate via the tow hook mount of the Mondial

Hmmm....does a QV have a tow hook? I don't recall seeing one. I'll have to go check that out. Thanks for the link!

Umm, an inspection location I've heard of
    ;)
just wants to see the front plate on the car.

    my $0.02:
Zip ties are as permanant as screws. Both respond to tools within minuites. Maybe zip ties are more so as you have to destroy them to remove them.
