You're ordering a 39 cent dinner at Taco Bell. A lotta people don't think Ferrari owners do the 'border run' ;-)

Too bad automotive stying has converged on one basic shape with a grill or rear end change being the only basic difference. It never used to be that way, When you saw a Ferrari you KNEW it. I wouldn't blame it on stupid people, but BAD styling.

I was having tires put on my S2000 the other day and the manager of the tire store told the tire changer to do the red 'civic' next, meaning my car, and the tire changer turned around and gave him a bunch of sh*t in reference to my car being an S2000 and not a civic. I got a kick out of it.
People are always asking me what kind of a car is that and some say is that a Porsche or a Ferrari then when I tell them it's a Honda they usually say Oh sometimes in a letdown tone or sometimes in a suprised tone. Either way I get a kick out of it.

The Mustang and Ferrari designs have far more differences than the grill and rear. Styling though getting somewhat similar in the overall dimensions when it comes to sedans is not at all at the 'no real differences' point concerning Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Corvette, Viper, Mustang, Lotus, TVR, MGB etc... In conclusion the ignorant, not stupid, people are to be blamed when the ‘is that a mustang’ comment comes up.

So where do you get detailed? Just kidding!!

The only time I've gotten the mustang comment was from my own sister. After taking her for a spin around the block she gets out of the car, looks at it and says "so does it have a Mustang motor and that's why the put the horse on there?"

I slapped her up-side the head, THEN politely explained the difference.

As I stated in another thread, why would you care about some clueless blokes who mistakes a 360 for a Mustang?

The other day I was in my Mustang and a guy came up to me and asked, "Oh is that the new Ferrari? I saw the horse on the badge."

...just kidding I don't even own a Mustang

With my 550 at a gas station, it is 50/50 for those who do not know: "Is it a Mustang because of the Prancing Horse on the back?” or “What year is your Corvette?”.

    Only drive 12 cylinders!

No offense intended, but do you care if someone mistakes you for a woman (assuming you're a man)?

I think people care because they like things to be recognized for what they are --not necessarily for any status it might bring.

It happened to me in my F355. Old guy came up and asked if it was a new Mustang. Well, it was funny, he really thought it was a Mustang.

Another time, when I was driving my brother old 360 in Thailand, the guy at the gas station told his friend that this is a new Porsche!!!!

I got my old Supra confused with Hyundai by old lady too. She said she liked my new Hyundai very much...ha ha ha.

I parked at the golf course today (early).

When I came back there were two mustangs, one on each side. they looked nothing like the 355.

i guess if you don't have a direct line of sight between the two cars and all that you can see is the emblem then maybe. (this is why people ask:" is this the NEW Mustang?"

But believe me, the ass end of a 355 blows a mustang away.

No, no, no, no no.....nothing to be offended by. You see, 1 in every 5 Americans are stricken with "Stupidity"....it's a random thing afflicting millions of Americans throughout our great country. Scientist are working diligently on a cure and perhaps some day we can become a society of normal funcitonal people...but until that day we just have to take pity and be sympathetic towards those poor souls who bear this dumb burden.

Don't take it as an insult... I think they really believe that. When I was schooling in CA in the 80's, I drove a nice red brand new Honda Prelude. I think it was the 88 model, something. I had the car lower, new mag wheels, muffler. I didn't remember how many people came up to me and said.... I love your Ferrari.

Yup I have it happen all the time. I thinks it's funny how out of touch some people are. Most of the time it is women that have no idea what the "horse" on the back is. I just smile and tell them to read the name on the engine cover. Most of the time the reaction is "Oooh..... a Ferrari."

funny for us to assume that because we love Ferraris everyone should be able to distinguish them from other brands... Calling someone stupid because they don't recognize your pride and joy is puerile - same rational a teenager would have for making fun of us becaure you can't tell if it's a Scion A or B... Not everyone in this world is tuned into our cars...If you are desperate for the recognition maybe you should get a couple of pinky rings, gold necklace and open up that shirt..that's what many folks think of when they think of the Ferrari owner....

I've had that happen. I tell them yes, it is, it's the new model and its coming out next year. I'm a tester for Ford, and guess what, it's only going to cost 10k, even with the engine showing.

Works every time, I get a chuckle, they don't get embarrassed, and they've got a story to tell their friends. Works for me.

Your a bad man Art, LOL. But then again, I also have fun with it too. Sometimes when people ask what it is, I tell them it's a VW kit car.

Ken, you forgot to tell everyone your reaction: "Bite your tongue, LADY!!" I never would have believed it had I not heard it myself firsthand.

A very pleasant fellow who obviously knows a LOT less about cars than he thinks he does said to me recently, "I really love that Ferrari of yours"- only problem is I was walking away from my Miata (red, with "Ferrari Owners Club" sticker on the back) at the time. He allowed as how he might buy one when he gets rid of his current "sports car"- a Chevy Monte Carlo!

HAHA. I would say its worse than that. Probably closer to 1 in every 3 American's is stricken with "stupidity".

I can't blame some people to honestly not know if they are not car aficionados. But ask them first if they are car guys. If they say yes, chuckle and explain. Maybe even carry a magazine with the new mustang in it and ask them if they notice anything different. If they say no, then they are obviously clueless.

My roomate swore up and down he saw a Murcielago driving through Huntsville one time. B/c of the description I knew it was a Diablo 6.0 that I had seen in the Woodlands countless times before. He kept saying no it was a Murcielago. I finally showed him a picture of the 6.0 and he said yea thats it. I said, no thats a Diablo, not a Murcielago.
