I FINALLY got around to installing my new wheels. 225/40-18 Potenza S03 on 7.5in wide rims all around, tightened with 85ftlbs, with 32F and 38R tire pressures.

I LOVE it! The steering is actually lighter now (old pressure must have been really low).

BTW I need an alignment now due to the offset differences between the 2 wheels (360 and OE) Please see this thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=134872102#post134872102

Thanks Dave! I seriously love it!

Next on my list is to find 2 sets of fronts of of a 575 (18in) and try them on! They should be even better (since I will be able to use wider rubber in the rear).

That shouldn't be too difficult. Lots of take offs around here (at least).

575 wheels use a much larger in diameter wheel bolt as compared to all 3 series cars so the conversion will have some issues to overcome in your hub or adaptor plate.

Just in case you did not know, if you did then please disregard.

    Paul

I run the 10" 360 wheels in the rear of my 308.

    Looks good.

The photo below illustrates my one concern with the conversion, that being the size of the rotor in the much more open wheel. I see a big brake kit in your future...

How do the weights of the 360 wheel/tire compare to the stock 328 combo?

Looks good! I always prefer using a factory wheel over aftermarket. I even talked my buddy who built a V8 Chevy S10 truck into putting on late model corvette wheels instead of aftermarket ones. How much do these wheels raise your ride hight?

I was thinking the same thing... the rotors look rather dwarfed. Even a big front brake kit (are those even available for 328's??) won't help that same visual issue in the rear.

I'd love to experience the handling difference.

I think those are Potenza SO-2's, not SO-3's.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Tillman, I used a very crude "place rim on my home scale method" and got 23 or so lb. I did not have a scale nearby when I had them mounted so I did not get it measured.

Dave, if you happen to have links to someone selling 575 18s, please forward me the contact info. Those are one of my favorite Ferrari OE wheels.

Brake kits are the same as 308s for early 328s, but later ABS hub cars have their own setup. :( When I get a 512 (one day), I will get a full brembo kit for it F/R and use the OE brakes from the 512 with minor mods on my 328. Until then, these are fine. :)
At 2 in the morning, I cant type! :) Thanks for pointing that out, yes they are S02's.

I love the new handling. It is very light compared to what I was used to, but still precise. The low profile rubber has not given me any issue yet on PA's G-d awful roads, so I think (hope) I will be fine.

If you run 35 series tires with the 360 18" rims ride hide change compared to stock 16"/ 50 series tires it is about a 1/4 (+/-) of an inch lower than stock.

Let us know how you solve the 550 wheel bolt into 328 hubs.

From most angles, the rotors aren't very visible anyway, and the wheels DO look great. I've always admired them on Paul Sloan's car.

Paul, through my talks with MK E (he has the wheels on his 308) the front wheels bolt on directly using 550/75 bolts. You need to use OE 550/575 bolts and NOT 3x8 bolts, due to differing designs. Even with these 360 wheels, you need to use OE 360 bolts instead of 3x8 for a proper fit.

IF this still does not work, (ie after placing the bolt in the wheel, the amount of thread it too much/too little on the side of the wheel compared to the OE 3x8), then I will have custom bolts made through Paul (Hill Engin).

I am just going to use all fronts, as the front tire on a 575 is a 8.5in wide wheel, and can accept the range from 225/40 to 245/40 (or 255/35) rubbers, so I can run a staggard setup with the fronts. I do not need the 10.5in rears as there is no way my car needs that much rubber for the little torque it puts down.

    Couple interesting tidbits:

The fronts are offset out about 12mm due to the diff. in offset between the 328 ABS wheel hub and the 360 wheel, while the rear is offset out about an inch (25mm)! I was afraid the wheels were going to stick out with a bad "boy racer/ricer" image, but luckily they are still (if ever so barely) tucked in.

I have not aligned it yet (Please help me on this thread :)) so as you can see, the camber/toe is wayy off! :) I only drove maybe 50 miles just to get a feel for it.

    More interesting tidbits.

He only has four new wheels, but he took 45 pictures of them.

When I did my 360 wheel set up 4 years ago I let Ronal Wheels USA do all the engineering as I wanted the car to be track worthy and as you said none of the stock 308 wheel bolts were used as they were to short and the head was switched to 17 mm socket size.

I still am a bit confused on the 550 issue but would not question Mark. We have one wheel in the shop and the wheel bolt holes are far greater in diameter than the 3 series. I was under the impression that the 12cyl cars weight and torque was greater so that they used a thicker wheel bolt.

Any way it sounds that if that is the case you will have custom bolts made that will reduce to the smaller size on the 3 series, let us know the results.

    Paul

PS. A really good alignment shop will be able to set it up if they just spend the time as I don't think you will find specs availible....it really is a custom thing and somewhat particliuar to each car.

    1 other thing:

I beleive that the 97 355 wheels are identical in design to the 550 wheels......could be wrong but worth checking.

Not my 1st choice for 5-spoke design wheels but look sharp on our car.

The wheel gap looks a little bigger now. It might be worth a look into dropping the ride height an inch or so.

From my sources, they were not. Aside from the design, the rears were completely different offsets. The fronts were I believe either 7.5 wide or 8in wide while the 550 was 8.5in. Not sure about the front offset on a 355 though.
I agree, but the set cost me ~1600 complete. Cannot argue with that! :)
