Yup it is. But then again making money is a good business plan don't you think?

I like it but at $160k it would be priced too high. I think a base of $110-$120k and it could really sell. After all if it based at $160k then with options and you could be approaching $180k at which point you might have people just thinking why not hold out a little more for a 430. There needs to be more of a price gap if they want to get another 3-4000 units sold a year IMHO.

    It's just a FALSE RUMOR
I was at the factory yesterday, and I know some people over there, and they ALL said it was just a rumor, inside Ferrari, there's NOTHING going on about it.

Seems likely. The pictures seem to be a photoshop, based upon the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione.

Its nice, but I dont think it deserves the Dino name. the Dino was legendary and I think it should just be left alone..Nice car though

This car more resembles a modern 250SWB.

We do need to see some new Ferrari models.

Love the idea... but i think the look is too simple for a fun sports car. It's more suitable for a grand touring like the 575. We are use to the Dino with a short front end, side air scoop, rear engine... But great idea.. cann't wait to see the finished product.

I also don't think that they will use the name as Dino instead of Ferrari. During the 70's, people didn't accept the name Dino over Ferrari. That's why the 308GT4, changed it's name from Dino to Ferrari in the middle of its production period. IMO. I don't think they will leave the Dino name alone. And I would like that.

This new Dino idea could very well start from the very top managment level that the middle managment level have no idea or not even heard of. But the fact that the rumore got to a major media, AutoCar, is something to consider of posibility of reality...

Porsche tryed the V8 in front tranny in the rear with the 928's and it never stuck.

They were awesome GT cars but never took in the US. I got two of them thru the years and stole them both for way under $20k for 3-4 year old cars after MSRP were over $75k new.

I hope the F-car will fair better.

I don't people would accept the price tag, and really another V-8, as a Ferrari, along with the production numbers. Sadly, if Ferrari actually went ahead with it (and I don't think they won't, maybe as a Maserati), I think Ferrari will fall down the wayside of Mercedes-Benz, BMW, basically killing their exclusivity and brand. And, it could leave Lambo and Bentley (though they seem pretty keen on expanding all lines), as the clear winners in the super-exotic. If Ferrari wanted to make more money, why wouldn't they just produce more 430's, which is already maxed out for its run?

Is Maserati such a failure right now? They only had the company a few years, and just begain releasing it's own models...Hasn't the Quatt. been a success? It would take time for it rebuild the brand. I think Ferrari needs to be more aggressively in marketing the line. I don't really know the history of the Dino.

Ferrari is very aggressive in it's name and logo. It's not just a carmaker anymore, its a brand. They slapped the logo on everything, from laptops, shirts, cellphones, ect. They seem to try to be maximizing the brand and name of Ferrari, and directing it back to the F1 series and the limited, high-end cars. Owning a Ferrari seems to be the "ulimate" pleasure.

... they wouldn't be. It's just a Maserati Coupe with a different body.

So lets pick holes in this 'scoop'.

Ferrari engineer the new Maserati Coupe ... use it's engine (modified) for the F430 AND then bring out a direct competitor. NO WAY!!

I call BS and will believe it when I see a REAL one.
    Pete
ps: Atleast it is better looking than the F430 IMO.

Frankly, I don't like this car. I don't want Ferrari's sales to increase. If anything, I want them to DECREASE! The day I buy a ferrari, and pull up next to the identical car, is the day I'm selling everything and buying a freakin MB Gullwing. Then the rarity is sure to stay the same..

    see what I'm saying?

PS...the front ends shouts "Lotus Elise!" and definitely not "rare supercar".

The back seems to resemble the 612 too much. Looks to forward swept over all and could use a more balanced look.

    Then I hope:

You don't plan on buying a red one

You are limiting yourself to GTO/F40/F50/NNO

and/or move to a hick town in iowa and stay there.

Otherwise you are bound to see a car simlilar to yours sooner or later :(

And I don't like the look of this car. Looks horrible to me.

i love the idea of an entry level ferrari gives more people the abilty to have a masterpiece if it was marketed as dino that would good too. This "small ferrari" was rumored to have 3.5 liter v8 350hp that is what my firend who works at ferrari told me anyway the car is in the pipeline as a working idea nothing has been set in stone. The car is proposed as a 911 fighter.

I would go with a "Dino" brand, and leave Ferrari where it belongs, exclusive, expensive and sexy. Ferrari does not have a problem selling the 360/430 line, so I am not sure why they would go downmarket and try to be cheaper. Bentley I believe want to push it's brand to volume to 9,000 or so, but the GT will be its cheapest model at $150k-$160. AM is going downmarket with the AMV8, but it is only making 5,000 Aston Martin's a year, and is slated to challenge the more expensive 911s. Ferrari is about being the best, in its cars, racing and business. I don't get why Ferrari is in "trouble", it makes a profit (a small one, but granted it's pretty good for the production and pricetag). I do think Ferrari should look at keeping Maserati, and stick with it, or launch the Dino brand as a line to challenge Porsche/Mercedes-Benz upper class models.

let us not forget ferrari started out making small light cars i.e. the 212 a dino revival would be great but i still see fruit in the baby ferrari without cheaping the brand on the same line of thinking the 308 was said to cheapen the brand by making it to accessable it is simply in my eyes expanding the brand while staying true to the roots in the same light I am apposed to a ferrari suv of any kind

that car is pretty ugly. i guess its only a matter of time till ferrari creates it though. hopefully it wont get a long waiting list and go for more than msrp used. i think ferrari might get to a point where they have 2 options: 1. put the company up for sale or 2. dillute the brand name with cheaper models(maybe cheaper than this in the future?). sad to say i think number 2 has a better chance. just remember 10 years ago no one thought porsche would ever make an suv.... please ferrari, dont make it and downmarket.

I don't think we have to worry too much, the last time the AutoCAR magazine got something like this right the Sun stayed out for 3 days straight ;) ... thus I still call it BS.

It makes absolutely no sense marketing wise and one thing Ferrari have shown is they DO know how to maximise the amount of money they snck out of the public re the Ferrari label.

exactly. and completely not in linewith their philosophy of keeping demand below supply. I just don't see why they would do this.
