I live in the Pacific Northwest where the eagle population has recovered to amazing levels. In the 70's the only place I ever saw ONE was when I lived in the San Juan Islands. Since they outlawed DDT they came back.

Now, living north of Seattle I see them almost everyday. They fly around my house dogfighting with Redtail Hawks. They also hangout on the gravel bars in the river by my house "fishing".

I used to think birds were just "stupid seed pecking chicken-like things". Now that I own two Parrots I have found them to be extremely intelligent and affectionate.

A truely magnificent creature and deserving of the care and respect by all.

My hats off to you Kelly for tracking this bird down.

LSU Vet School called to tell, they had to put the Bald Eagle to sleep. The brake was to close to the shoulder and the only way to fix it was to take off the wing.

To me and eagle with out a wing is no eagle at all.

Thanks for all your support and kind words,
    Kelly

An incredible story! I came home one day to find what I thought was a golden retriever on my front lawn. Turned out to be a golden EAGLE! It was huge, and being harried by a pair of crows. Turns out they migrate up and down the east coast. Beautiful birds...

A cynic might see that as metaphoric for modern American culture, but ...

There are more than 34,000 humans and they don't run away and hide in the woods if they get hurt.
