Dave and I arrive somewhat after eleven. We need some time to clean out the cars and get ourselves ready. Also being a tad early allows you to watch the other groups. Noel is somewhere in there with his 360.
Dave and I decided not to go today given the weather and forecast. Depending on how it'll be tomorrow I might give it another go.
Yes and no: Winds gusting at 30mph, cold temps and potential for rain and snow in the afternoon. Just what you don't need to get heat into your tires while racing plus you don't want to get caught out driving home in snow. I've been there, don't ever wanna do that again. I'm hoping to hear a word form Peter Webb. It'd be ideal if we could do our touring session tomorrow when the sun will be out with no potential for snow.
I went... had a blast, even though the temperature wasn't exactly helping my grip. The track is great. Probably looked like a fool though... messed up my heel/toe on turn 2 a couple times and couldn't seem to pick a line and stick with it most of the time... oh well. Anyway, thanks for organizing a cool event, Peter!
Yep, event was great...much thanks to Peter Webb and staff. I found a new favorite track. Peter asked me about Andreas and I told him you (Andreas) and Dave were planning on going tomorrow weather pending. He said that was fine and what he expected anyway.
I was there with my Son in our Mondial t coupe. If you guys have a chance to go, do it. The track section is short, but I really like the long sweeping curves, which makes each lap enjoyable. They do toss in a few quick hard turns for good measure as well, but the long fast turns are the most memorable. The Mondial was well suited for the track. I must have made 1/2 a dozen sloooooow laps behind some others, but I also got in maybe 10 or so laps "at speed" (or close to 90% at least). Drive this track slow & your mind will wander. Drive it quickly & it will keep your interest. I did not recognize many Chicago F-chaters, so sorry for not introducing myself to all this time. I will try to say hello better at the next Chicago event! Lastly... My 8-ish year old Son took some photos. Michael - I was making fun of my friends because your son (who at the time I referred to as "the little kid in the Mondial") was willing to ride with you but they were all afraid to ride with me I was in the bright green Elise. Your Mondial looked and sounded great!
Hahahhaha! Yes, my Son is pretty dang cool (for a squirt). He was passionate about sitting in your car (he felt it was "just his size"), but we could not place who owned it! We luv the Lotus brand (that yellow Esprit was grand today 'eh) and your color makes it that much more cool. Thanks for the note!
Great that you guys all had a blast. And thanks for letting Peter know about my intentions. I really wasn't hot about going in this weather for car as well as photography reasons. Hopefully tomorrow the sun will come out. Dave probably won't have time tomorrow, but Mike Z. should. Of course Murphy plaid his usual trick on me: Now I'm looking like a fool for not going, but be thankful to me: Had I gone, we'd all be covered in snow... Those pics looks great. That kid has talent. Looks like Noel's 360 spider and Chris 365 (on which Dave was betting not to be there in this weather). But who has that Boxer (365 I presume)? Is it the "mistery" boxer from last year's Arboretum again? Anyway, my bag is packed and ready for tomorrow.
I dunno who... But the plate reads: BACHSIR I saw the car last year @ Blackhawk. Used there as Enzo intended! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Make sure to drop by and say hello if you see me up there again, I'd be happy to let you both check out the car! One of my friends is trying to convince me to go again tomorrow (not that it would take much convincing...), so I might see some of you up there.
So... if we did not go today, we can go tomorrow??? I did not officially sign up for Sunday... I'd love to go tomorrow! Andreas.... PM me your phone #, or check your PM's and call me
What an unfortunate seasonal cold spell! Hey to change subjects (kind of) - anyone know the story on that one-off Alfa parked behind Continental at the lit. show with the # on the side? My friend really liked it......
I thought that might be you, but i didn't see an elise on the roster. You shoulda stopped by, I only know the faces of maybe 3 people on here.
Rats! Chicago weather reports in the spring..Arrrrg!! A bad call on my part. This hasn't been the first time the weather channel was dead wrong. Andreas, leave your cell phone on in the morning. I may be giving you a call. Dave
Big apology from me. Sorry, I should have thought about you guys waiting for a signal from me. I deliberately stayed away from FChat so I don't hear about the result of the Imola GP (as a matter of fact I was terrified somebody at the track would bring it up and sure enough as I walked in the clubhouse there it was on TV so I had to cover my ears). I learned a few lessons about communications and miscomm, so again my apologies and going forward, I'll have a list of our members' cell phones with me to stay in touch. Mike, I'll try to make it up to you somehow. Don't give up on me. Yet.
Here some shots from yesterday. There were a lot of Ferraris, but mostly 360 and CS cars and they participated in the tracking session. So for the touring session, there were barely any Ferraris left and infact my 308 was the only and oldest Ferrari in that session (only the Dino GT4 in tracking was older). They gave us a stern warning not to drive like the guys from Saturday's touring session who allegedly overdid it... It was a very well organized event, kudos and thanks go to Peter Webb. I had a lot of fun and also wanted to specially thank Autobahnclub founding member Jerry who invited me on a quick run of the South track. Thanks Jerry! I owe you one. The TR and the racecar are from Giovanni and his son. The 550 is Clem's. Thanks to all of you who came. Despite the weather it turned out to be a great event. We had lots of nice Italian cars and some other nice lesser cars too. I only got to meet a couple of you. It was a hectic weekend for me trying to keep this event well organized. I talked to Andreas for a few minutes on Sunday. Ask him about the black flag I threw at him in touring :0- There was some aggressive driving in the Saturday touring session. A couple of people who got carried away. I was out in my Alfa and then a VW Golf TDI. Talk about no pickup. I hope everyone had a great time. -Peter Webb P.S. Nice pictures. Lucky for you guys there's only a shot of my car and the back of my head.
