The only thing I have ever been good at doing was being an infantryman in the Marine Corps so today I decided to go down tot he national guard and sign up. I hope to god They accept me but I'm not positive if they will due to my prior injuries. But I'm pretty sure they will. I don't have to go through bootcamp again either since I allready did it on the Marines. The only bad part about it is is that The NG place here only does Artillery but Artillery has to have Forward Observers so I can't exactly be an Infantry man again but I still will be an Infantry man(if that makes sense) . If they do accept me they said I'd be leaving either July 23rd or in September.

    Please Pray they accept me.

The fact that you signed up to go to Iraq and serve your country makes you ten times the man I will ever be. I bow to your honor to help defend our country and world peace. Your efforts will be in my prayers daily, as I praise everyone in our armed forces that are the bravest of the brave.

May God bless the tasks that lay ahead of you.

Actually the first thing I asked them when I went in was if I joined would I get to deploy. I refuse to sign up if I'm not going to deploy. Everytime I watch the news and see stuff about Iraq I get the biggest feeling of guilt in me because I'm not over there with my brother Marines.

Good luck. If you want duty OCONUS, you can find another N.G. or Army reserve outfit that is deploying, or about to deploy into Iraq. You do not have to limit your choices just to your State. In other words, find an infantry unit that has already deployed or is about to deploy. The units that have already deployed, are still sending soldiers overseas. There are plenty of N.G. light infantry units already in the war zone. You can join an infantry brigade from another State, that is already in either Afghanistan or Iraq. You probably will not like a MOS, other than 11B. You should choose an MOS that you will like, given the fact that you will most likely serve for 18 months.

    I'm with you.....

    I hope they accept you.

Now, explain something to me. Why wouldn't they? I understand they are giving bonuses to sign up. Why don't you just go back into the marines or is there some reason that's not possible?

    Good luck

Not to give a negative comment, as it is a very honorable thing you will do. But going from the Marines to the national guard will be like the difference between night and day in terms of how business is conducted. Is there not a way or unit close by that is a Marine Reserve unit? Army infantry and Marine 0311 are peas and carrots. Just my thoughts though.

    Semper Fi regardless!
