    Hello fellow enthusiasts,

This email is going out to anyone that emailed me interest in the fun run. I labored for quite some time on what route we should take to get to the Mountain Brauhaus Restaurant, located in Gardiner, NY (just West of New Paltz). Since I'm not too familiar with the roads there, and don't want to take the thruway all the way up, I've decided to keep things fairly simple. This is because we are going to have a huge turnout, and I want to keep the route sweet and simple, and scenic at the same time. Of course, should the weather suck, the turnout will not be as big, but I say come out anyway, and wash your car next weekend if it gets a little dirty. I'm sure the rain will do wonders in washing the underside of your car from all of that built up dust, ha ha.

    Anyhow, here goes:

Meet by exit 5 at the gas station on the Palisades Pkwy (near Tappan, NY) at 9:30.

10:15 - 10:30- Depart and head North on the Palisades Pkwy. Make sure you don't veer left at the split by exit 17 or 18? (don't go toward route 6 and t-way). FOLLOW SIGNS TOWARD BEAR MOUNTAIN BRIDGE (by staying right).

Once we hit the traffic circle at the end of the parkway, take your third exit (after bridge exit) onto Route 9W -north. (watch your speed until the 55 mph sign in highlands. Many cops.

Stay on 9W for approx. 30 miles (give or take). We will go thru Newburgh, where we'll run into a series of lights. If we get very spread out, I guess we can try to find a place to pull to the side for people to catch up (optional) Follow signs and stay on 9W North.

Continue on 9W North through Highland (different from above). About a mile into HIghland, you will turn West onto Route 299. (stay on for 9 - 10 miles)

We will pass through New Paltz, and continue on Route 299 West. When 299 ends and "T's" with Route 44/55, the restaurant should be on the left. We should be able to see the place from the "T". The phone number for the restaurant is 845-255-9766.

So, yes, we will in all likelihood be splitting up, and yes, some will drive faster than others.....that's OK.. It's all good, b/c we are meeting at the same place. The restaurant is expecting us around noon, so there is no major rush. Again, it's gonna be a great time. The route is simple, and should be fun and nice. Let's hope the weather holds out. THIS IS A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT, so plug the holes in your car with some bubble gum for now.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing the old faces as well. Oh yeah, this is the first time we are heading to this destination, so don't shoot me if things become hectic. Bring some money for lunch too, not sure how much the "set" menu will run, but I need to take a poll as to how many will want brats/burgers/etc. when we meet, so I can notify the kitchen. Thanks so much for your cooperation and patience. Now, let's have some fun.

    Regards,
    Jon

I was going to post this but decided to hold off in order not to reveal our route to the "wrong" folks. However, it really makes no difference since we'll be a decent sized group with various marques (F-car, Porsche, Lambo). I have these directions printed out for everyone and you will get a copy at the starting point.

Hey Keith as for it being too far for you, common bro you drive this far all the time. It'll be good for you to get out in the Viper and drive it a bit over some distance. Don't let "distance" dictate whether or not you drive that machine of yours.

It's going to be a beautiful day weather wise and it looks like we'll have a great group of cars coming along. Here is who I have as joining us at this point...

    993 Guy (993)
    Greenboxster (996 C4 cab)
    Notoboy (355 or TR)
    Ghost (???)
    udalmia (CS)
    Vito
    lupe (355)
    whart (Diablo 6.0)
    YellowMurci (Murci)
    GregG (Supra)
    Robiferretti (Vette)
    CTM
    THonda (S2000)
    jakes-gto
    charlie rx7 (Vette)
    Acura Nsx Pilot (NSX)
    sjmst (Mondial or Bimmer)
    JStone414 (M3 or shotgun)
Noah (one of the GDC fleet machines)

Scratch the option of bimmer for me. It is in the body shop after vandals did about 2K worth of damage to it. Third time in 1 year. I guess that's what BMW stands for: Break My Window.
So, either the Mondial or...Fiat Spider!

I will have to wait and see. 250 Miles is a long drive.

How many people would PAY to ride 250 miles in a Viper? Just do it. ;)

I have to respectfully disagree with you guys on a couple of points here.

The ticket issue is far from a guarantee. We'll have a great diverse group of cars and I'm sure speeds will be kept to within tolerance for a majority of the group.

As for 250 miles...you guys can easily do that much travel on any run that we take. Common now, let's stop being silly with the excuses...we'd love to have ya come along and if not that that's cool too. Besides you guys are way too young to be so concerned about driving a little distance (especially with the machines that you have at your disposal). I used to just get in the car and drive just for the sake of driving and it resulted in some of my best experiences. Just a little word from the "elders".

That's cause you "don't do Jersey, PA, etc etc" my brotha! ;-)

I'm not going to debate this since I think it's a fruitless waist of a posting, but I average 125+ miles on most of the runs we take round trip. The running of the bulls was over 350 miles and my trips out to the island are usually in excess of 200 miles by the time I get home.

In no way am I saying that 250 miles is a short journey, but I am saying that it shouldn't be the sole barrier for joining us on a great drive. Enough said...and to each his/her own.

The mileage you are discussing is something alot of folks do on a motorbike without making a big fuss. In a car, it's nothing. A long run involves distances in which the price of gas or cigarettes drop by at least 50% between point of origin and destination.

I'm in as long as the weather holds! Looking forward to it. I have to break in the new car. Also, can someone tell me how to go about changing my name. The green Boxster is gone, so my name doesn't make much sense anymore.
