Jim enjoys a good reputation and his prices seem fair overall.

There is a 30,000 mile 2001 that needs the 30k service at Specialty Motors on Van Nuys Blvd in Van Nuys, CA for $ 114,000 that probably can be bought for a little over 100,000. The Light Metallic Blue with Black power Daytona Seats, looks Nice, its said to have been checked out. Hope that helps

I think Pchop wants a 360M. 550 is a little to "sedate" for our racer Pchop...

I think Bruce is inching for the new Z06. ;-)

A 14K discount....A bit optimistic. Regardless, it will need a minimum of 8K in service IF nothing is found wrong. And what are the chances of that?

A major on a 550 is NOT 8k. Unless you're doing new water pump, etc. etc.

550s are pretty easy buys so long as you cover your bases for the well-known items. Finding a car can take as little or long as you want depending on how particular you are. For my second, it took me almsot 6 months.

You start with the search function, to see what lots of people have written many times at great length about the very same issues / questions you have.

Dan, Not to be rude but I don't set the prices. If were considering that the work will be done by an authorized dealer that's the approx. price my two local dealers quoted.

Drew - no question about niceties, I didn't take it any other way and I hope my comment didn't come across that way either.

With respect to the pricing - a lot of the variation is in labor rates. Up here in NorCal, we have some of the higest rates around (almost double that of what some ECers are paying), and I'd imagine LA is similar.

I'm curious if you have a break-down on pricing for that info. I've had two majors on two 550s now, and it seems that most of the variation is in labor prices (as mentioned), and in WHAT happens in the major. Some places list, for example, water pumps as part of, some don't. That's ~1k right there.

It's all about the information - and as sophisticated buyers and owners, it seems that the more we have, the more we can use to help ourselves.
