I rec. my latest Cavallino issue yesterday and noticed that in the guida section it showed that the bottom price has dropped to 29k for 308 QV's but the top dollar had increased to $60,000 !!!!! Am I missing something or are there some $60k QV's out there, where do these guys get this stuff.
I bet no one, (without photoshopping one) can post an ad for a $60K 308. if so mine is priced WAAY too low at 33k.
Plenty of 328 "drivers" at $37,000-$39,000 So, pretty hard to justify paying $60k for a 308 unless you are a nut about a perfect car (and not going to drive it).
That seems a bit too high...but that sort of range makes complete sense. As the cars continue to get older, they will be more "doggy" ones, and well, the really nice "garage queens" become fewer.
you could get GREAT 348 spyder,TR or......... A 365 GT4, mondial, AND a 308 all for 60k! (sound familiar, buddy Eric)
Yep, go ahead and buy that 2kmile queen and sell it with 30k. You will take a bath on the thing. The only $60k 308 is one that hasnt and never will be driven. Take a look at any 308 with 50k+ miles. How quick do they sell at say 35$? Not very. A low mile 308 that ends up being driven is just a car thats going to depreciate each and every mile. The investment potential is ZERO. They are just cars to drive. They are not hard to find as plenty were built. Clyde is right on the mark about them in his last rant. Funny as it was.
the price of 60k is based on a car that sold at barret jackson a few months back. it really did transact at that value. i too was amazed as i have a gtb qv w/ all documentation and only 6k miles...it is possibly the best in the usa...w/o any question. i think to the right person, it is worth 40k. but that may be my head trash as it seems these cars when compared to the ave offering could in no way be duplicated for near similar dollars. but yes, the 60k price is real! not sustainable , but real!!
I attended the RM Auction @ Amelia Island in March where there was a '76 308GTB to be auctioned with a $70,000-$90,000 estimate. The seats still had the plastic covers on them(didn't check to mileage). I didn't watch it cross the block but read in later auction reports that it went for, I believe, in the high $60's.
Given the number of modified cars out there, isn't a perfect, original car worth whatever a serious collector wants to pay?
I wouldn't count on that. You're starting to see the major collectors restoring the ones they have in their collections. When you consider the costs of doing a platinum show job on one, that's about what the restoration cost is going to be. I'm expecting this price to hold for the top of the market.
There's a '76 Glass GTB for sale in this month's FCA newsletter for $69k (it might be a Euro dry sump) but even still, not worth that.
The last time this happened it was 1989/90. Enzo can't die twice. I just cannot see this happening with a driver's Ferrari like the 308
Marq, Was that the very low mileage brown metallic car? If so, I believe Keith Martin mentioned it in a recent Autoweek. He said the car had an estimate of $70,000 - $90,000 but the disappointed owner settled for $42,000, if I remember correctly. I'll see if I can find it.
I can definitely see this happening...although I did not expect it so soon. There are other Ferraris, like the 330 GT 2+2 or 250 GTE which have also gone up since years ago. The old theory that 2+2s won't be worth anything is rediculous in my opinion, especially when so few were made. And although many 308s were made, they are drivers' cars and the low mileage, show quality cars will surely be worth more as years go by. I can see it now "Own a piece of Ferrari history...a true drivers' exotic". This rise in price is totally different than that of the late 80s after Enzo's death. The older Ferraris will certainly go up in value...again, I didn't think it would happen this soon and I really think it will be many, many years until we see 308s routinely hit this mark. I would say $50k in 10 years when the last 308 (like mine) is 30 years old and the oldest is close to 40 years old....yikes 40 years old! Just my opinion. I never plan on selling my 308 so if it's worth $5,000.00 or $50,000.00 makes no difference to me. Just cool to think it may soon be appreciating in value.

i am waiting for Erik to tell us all he purchased a red/tan carb 512BB for $20k. that way i can send in my resume to him to be the new guy mechanic on the fleet of red horses! the F40 for Spicy will be a real challange at that price point !
I saw a BB this week at $49k and passed. I still think I can find a fast cheese grater that needs a service at $32-$36k, that's the goal.
