This is a battery tender http://www.batterytender.com/ Since you have limited tools you can try a few things to narrrow it down. Take 1 spark plug wire off. Place a screwdriver in the wire socket and hold it about 1/8 off the motor somwhere where it will ground. Have someone else crank the engine, watch for a spark. You should see a spark jump from the screwdriver to the valvecover bracket, etc. Make sure you use steel, not aluminum as your grounding point. If you see a spark your problem is not ignition, dont touch the metal part of the screwdriver other wise you'll get a shock, you'll be the ground in that case. As far as spark plug removal, I dont think so, the 355 is not carbureated and you wont get wet spark plugs due to the air mass flow sensor. With fuel injection the computers prevent flooding of the car, so this test is not conclusive. let us know if you have spark
sorry, Incorrect. The 355 will and has on many a car flooded the plugs (under the correct conditions). the earlier 355`s were more prone to this. If there is no injection during cranking, than how does the engine start? best regards, jim
By now with all of the cranking you have been doin the 1st thing I would do is pull a sparkpluge. Any plug and see if it is wet. You can also pull the rubber hose off of the air intake plemium and smell for gas. I fthe plug is not wet or you don't smell gass then you have a fuel problem. Could be a bad pump or you have plugged FI nozzles. I doubt this because 6 weeks would not cause gas to gel or gum up the system. Also if no gas you may also not be getting voltage to the injectors. So if you do have wet plugs then pull them all and put in new ones or dry up the old ones with compressed air. Also before you put in the pluge take one and plug it into the plug wire and ground the thread. Crank the motor and see if you get spark. So if you get spark and fuel then put it back together and try to start it. As far a voltage needed to run the car (CPU) and other equipment you need a minumin or 7 1/2 - 8 1/2 volts. so if you have 10-12volts everything would work. If none of this works then you'll need much more diagonistic equipment. Also if you have a scanner then check the codes. That should give you something to check.
Mickey, pay IMSS or SPS to pick up the car and it'll be fixed in 1 day. Surely all this hassle is not worth it.
so what was the problem? wish people would write back explaining what the problem was so we can learn from it...;.
OK guys, it was the Fuel Pump Fuse Relay had burnt out. Something to do with a new amplifier my audio guys had fitted. I thought I heard the fuel pump pressurizing but it was actually the oil pump/heater or something that i could hear. The garage fixed it in minutes....
vref is right. You shouldn't disconnect the battery or jump start your 355. Once you do that the settings in your car's computer may be reset and won't start. Have you tried calling your local dealership and asking their advice?
so the car broke down again and would'nt start, same problem, no fuel. this time they did a thorough investigation and it turns out the entire fuse box was faulty. something to do with loose connections over time. so now a new fuse box in place and touch wood, no problems.
