Assuming it is 1/3 chassi/engine, 1/3 driver and 1/3 tires, and further assuming that that the first 2/3rds are up to the challenge should Ferrari think about switching, with the rest of the field being able to obtain more developement time on Michelins, to Michelin?

Imagine the consequences: Bridgestone would use Jordan as its main team and create the perfect symbiosis of tire-chassis combination while the Minardi team would have to do a lot of the testing for them. We would end up with processional races with two yellow cars leading, followed by two black cars. Unthinkable!

Well, I think Bridgestone has been struggling for the past few years.

Despite all your good points above, there is still a case to be made that with the other teams running on Michelin (X Jordan) they have a much better database to develop a good tire from. Maybe this is just too much of an uphill battle or maybe this is just a cycle that Ferrari has to work through with Bridgestone. We'll see.

    Ferrari is staying with Bridgestone.

Red Bull = Ferrari engine in 2006 = Bridgestone tires in 2006?

Sauber is on Michelin this year, so not necessarily. But you have a point, it would help Ferrari to get RBR to use Bridgestone as well.

...come to think of: Red Bull and BS kinda fits together...

Makes me wonder whether the decision by Sauber to switch to Michelins had anything to do with them loosing the Ferrari engines for next year.

I know BMW wants Sauber and Todt offered his engines to Sauber for next year as well. The question is more, did the price go up and/or the preferred customer treatment/service go down after Sauber made the tire switch.

Maybe there are also technical reasons that make a certain engine/tire combination more valuable?

This is business, Ferrari should be on Michelins the next race. You forget that Ferrari lost the championship in 98 and 99 because they were on Goodyears.

ANY 4th tire at the Nuerburgring would have brought them the title in 99. But the car needs four, not three.

I remember reading that there was a proposal to go back to a single tire.
