What do you want to know ?

I took the car for a ride a few days ago and a client and I drove it to lunch earlier in the week.

    Cheers,

Full history can be found in Marcel Massini's book "Ferrari by Vignale", page 102, published 1993 by Giorgio Nada Editors in Milan, Italy. After Brocket had broken up the car (insurance scam) the car was reconstructed with a totally new body (unlike the original one).

    Thanks for offering to comment.

    1. What were your driving impressions of the car?
    2. Do you believe it is mechanically sound? Any trouble spots you either noticed or were told about?
    3. What was YOUR impression of the appearance. (I realize there are numerous pictures, but they can be misleading.)
    4. The write-up suggests the car has no racing history (“a relatively uneventful life”). Do you know if that is the case?
    5. The write-up indicates restoration began in 1995. Do you know when it was completed, and what has been the car’s history since then?
    6. Finally (and hardly of least importance), what price are they asking?

Sorry if this makes anyone upset, but the car was a total bore nearly its entire life. Not very attractive coachwork and despite the even chassis number, it was a pure road car, owned by a succession of owners with nothing to notable to set it apart from any other 1950s open car.

If it was not a Ferrari, very few people would even care.

Brocket did what he did and nothing is going to change that. Car was bought after being recoved in peices by my friend Carlos Monteverde. He needed a competitive drum brake car for the Ferrari Challenge Series as he had crashed the 250 TR I sold him.

Mechanics were done by DK Engineering, all new alloy competition body by Rod Jolly. Carlos's bills exceeded £300K!

Carlos sold the car before he ever raced it after restoration was finished.

We sold the car through RM Auctions in Monterey. Car was bought by Pat Hart and I am now selling it on behalf of his Widow and Children.

    Asking price is $850K.

Pat drove the car just once before he died. I have put about 100 or so road and track miles on the car but never raced it. It has yet to be fitted with a fire bottle, seat belts or a roll hoop.

    Hope this helps.

    Warm regards,

    Bill Noon

Hi, Bill - I've just become a bit curious about the car, mainly by the comment about unattractive coachwork.

Do you have or know of any photos showing the original bodywork?

Used to be identical to 0159EL and quite similar to 0227EU and 0255EU.

    See:

Original grille of 0138AM seems to have been removed early on and later on Brocket hot-rodded it to death: it was a real hunch-back of Notre Dame before Brocket gave it a neck shot.

    Best wishes, KAre

When it was auctioned off at RM, after the total restoration, it went for just under $600K... Has anything been done to it since to justify an additional quarter of a million dollars...? Just wondering...

Nothing has changed accept the value of such cars in general. By all accounts its the least expensive way to buy a competative and very good looking car for the Drum Brake Class in the Ferrari / Maserati Challenge Series.

Check around and see what similar cars are fetching or might fetch were the owners willing to sell.

I know of one very proper similar example without the rebody issue that traded hands for $2.55M just a few months ago. Another 375MM was sold not long ago for over $5M. These prices kind of take some of the fun of thrashing such cars around the track the way they were meant to be driven.

Bottom line is this car will always have a taint but deliver nothing and I mean nothing but smiles to her next owner.

    Cheers,

    Bill Noon
