The one thing I really do like about NASCAR is how they do interviews following a race. They interview more than just the top three drivers like F1. I want to hear from others.

I remember back when Speedvision started up, back when I had my big Paraclipse C-band satelite system running. They had stuff on airplanes, motorcycles, military stuff, and racing. But Nascar was never on there. They didnt even mention stock crap racing.

I dont know what happened, but this garbage they have is rediculous. I dont care if they want to show some Nascar races, but its Nascar 18-7 and infomercials the other 6. I told my family maybe another month and I will shut the satelite dish off completely. I dont normally call and voice my opinion, if thats how Speed feels they can kiss my a$$. Besides, they get the word from here from some source or another, they know how we feel. If you "someone here" wanted to send a post to Speed on behalf of Fchat AND Flist, along with the Plist, Lambo list, BMW list, etc, I think we could sure get a lot of signatures. I would sign it. Maybe if they seen thier potential audience and that many were ready to split, they would cull thier programming. But how many of us would be truely willing to shut it off to follow through with our threat? But thats all I can see to do. Im 46 years old, and except for a couple years of Speedvision, Real road racing coverage has been non existant my entire life. All this Nascar coverage has me ready to go postal.

The truth is, Americans as a whole have no interest in any other form of racing, because they arent either intelligent enough, or have no exposure to anything sophisticated. I feel so strongly on this I think Speed could have good success with a show, "Mobile Home trailer axle tech". They could get some of the Nascar boys to sit around a counter top and talk trailer axles and wheels. They could put a set of Hoosiers on one, with tubbed wheel wells and some wrinkle walls, get some trailer trash babes. Wait. Maybe they need Mobile home drag drag racing?

    Gentlemen~

I posted the following letter into Speed, in thier comments section.

    Sirs~

Some backround: I am 46 years old, have owned a big C-band satelite dish system, presently own a Ferrari and a Mercedes. I am a memeber of the Ferrarilist.com,Ferrarichat.com,etc. Basically I subscribe to sportscar websites and I own and work on sports cars. I am also a aircraft enthusiast/pilot. I have witnessed the programming of Speedvision, erode down into what is now Nascarvision, and the result is to be quite honest, repulsive. Repulsive to the point that if there is not a change in programming before the end of june, I will end my subscription to your Nascar channel, and whatever coverage or lack thereof of F1. I feel that by subscribing, I am only promoting 24-7 coverage of Nascar. I intend to copy this over to the various lists I subscribe to, as there is always a group of people unhappy with your coverage, in the hope that they will follow me. And just so you understand, Nascar poker was retarded enough, pre-emting the Spanish GP was over the top. Plus your F1 coverage kinda sucks anyway. I made it through most of my life with non-existant TV coverage, I can make it the rest of the way without any. I just cant keep turning the channel to speed and finding some Nascar show on all the time. Thank you for your time.

Guys, I am standing by what I have posted. I will end my subscription on June 30 if there is no change. I would hope that many of you will follow me, as well as post this letter to various other lists, such as rennlist, bmwlist, anywhere F1 enthusiasts may reside. You can also go to Speeds website, and just simply refer to the Krowbar letter and tell them you will follow me. Maybe we can get them to change thier programming back to what speedvision was originally. If not I sure wont miss the BS thats on there now.

I think NASCAR is okay. But Speed as BURNED IT OUT! I don't even watch Speed any more, accept for the F1 races. Every time I turn it on they have some sort of NECKCAR programing going on. They don't even have any NHRA at all. I used to be able to find my second favorite type of racing, WRC, when there wasn't F1. But even that I can never seem to find on the air at a normal hour.

    Speed sucks.

The reduction of F1 coverage, limited coverage of endurance and sedan racing, and over exposure of NASCAR is getting pathetic. The only reason I can't get rid of the cable is that my wife insists we keep it for the Food Channel. Now I am watching more Iron Chef competitions than F1. Maybe we can get F1 personalities on Food channel and poker channel.

Just so you guys know, the ENTIRE season (except monaco) is being broadcast on CBS sports this year. Sunday mornings, before golf.

And with respect to SPEEDTV, the big boys at Fox openly said, and I iwsh my memory would allow me to quote exactly, "we are slowly going to make this a NASCAR only channel."

Way too much NASCAR programming! :-(
Please get rid of NASCAR Poker and other non-racing NASCAR programs
and show more GT, F1 & SCCA events. NASCAR has its merits like any
other racing venue but it certainly isn't entertaining enough to consume
so much of SPEED's programming! Oh, and the Barrett-Jackson
marathons...yawn...those should be broadcast at night when people
are looking for something to put themselves to sleep.

Are you sure? I thought See B.S. was only carrying four races.

Why not have FOX/FX broadcast all they want about NASCAR (races, poker matches, etc.) and keep SPEED covering all the other types of races. Even better is, whenever any kind of NASCAR program is shown on SPEED they should reciprocate with some other types of races shown on FOX/FX. That way anyone without the benefit of the ability to receive SPEED can see some of good stuff.

Ok, i can actually accept that they can't show the race in primetime. But they show the replay of the spanish GP in the middle of the freaking night? That's not acceptable either. Plus they only show it once. As far as speed becoming all nascar, i'll cancel my cable the second it happens. That would really be lame.

I cancelled my cable service because of NASCRAP. I got sick of not having any good shows to watch on Speed... oh sorry NASCRAP TV.

Speed channel responded today with the following!!

Since Speed was not the original telecaster of that race (CBS was), we were
under no obligation to show it at all. Knowing it was shown on a broadcast
network to a viewing audience three times larger than any race shown on
Speed this year, we could have chosen not to air it. But we felt F1 fans
would want to see it with our announcers and production touches.

F1 reruns never attract large audiences, so prime time was out of the
    question.

I think he has hit the nail on the head. Today Americans don't really care to follow things going on outside of our borders. They could care less that F1 is far more technologically advanced than NASCAR. I believe there was an article in Motor Trend a while back that had Montoya driving a stock car, and then the stock car driver in the F1. This article hopefully brought F1 into spotlight, and may have enlightened many Americans about a sport that is not widely known today. This is such a tragedy that something so simple as NASCAR can dominate the auto racing community!!

I think while this might be true it's not the whole story. Nascar is very corporate driven so they have the resourses to bombard the american public with all sorts of info about the sport which breeds interest. There have been times, I rememeber at least one in which they brought out an F1 a car, a Jaguar I think, in Times Square doing some sort of demo run. Did anyone other than the people that were there at the time and stopped out of curiosity know about this? I sure as hell didn't, and i live in NY. When Nascar had thier deal in Times Square i knew about it a week in advance and did attend. This only one example but generally Formula One makes no real effort to get new american fans whilst Nascar is always striving for a new fanbase. This, coupled with the fact that there are no american drivers or teams make it easy for americans to ignore. Most people in other countries, although not always the case, watch because they have someone to cheer for.
