I like the idea. Personally, I would ensure the school and law approve. It sounds like it is an accepted method as you mentioned in the Lions Club comment. John, Don't take your eye off the ball by making it a bigger issue than it is. As sheety of a deal as it is, remember that it is a windshield, albeit a $1K windshield...Do not get yourself into trouble over it. My two cents...Dane
Awesome suggestion. You don't know if it is the 10th graders...but if it...i think this will have a high success rate.Call that plan A. If its not, you might try Plan B. Fix the BIMMER ASAP since they really didnt get that car (may make them want to come back for it). Keep Ferrari in the garage (too risky to bait with) and BMW out on the street and get a surveilance camera (100 bucks?) from www.activeeffort.com. Keep it rolling on that car 24-7 when parked. Unless there was a string of vandalism acts that night (which case I would skip plan B), you might have been specifically targeted. I think if you were, that they will be back. LET THE POLICE HANDLE IT THOUGH! LAST THING YOU WANT TO DO IS TRY TO HANDLE THE PROBLEM ON YOUR OWN AND HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE CRIMINAL COURTS. BELIEVE ME, I KNOW.
That does really suck. I never leave my car on the street unless it is being watched. I park carefully and maybe this will contunue to work. Damn big hole. The must of trown the rock while speeding. I don't think you could hurl one that hard.
john I have a few factory winshields for the 348 and 355 in stock. Not locan repro,s but with the horse on it . Email me and i will work a some sort of deal based on what i saw and read on your thread.. [email protected]
john, i feel for you. my cars have all been broken into multiple times so i know what you are going thru. re the windshield, my guess is that your insurance covers that at a very reduced rate, (mine was only $100) because they dont want you going around with that too long. you may want to think about setting up some kind of fake cctv camera in your driveway and advertise this well to scare off future deviants.

Careful with retaliation. Some punks shot out the windshield on my H2 last year. So, me and a few of my guys went to the little punks house and broke out all his windows and kicked off the water spickett and flooded his basement, i also kicked out the window on one of his trucks. About $4k worth of damage. Problem was he was having a party at the time and about 8 punks saw us do it. They called the cops, and all the kids were interviewed numerous times but none wanted to come forward and finger me. The cops even called me and tried to get me to "talk" to them (ya right) They left this punk alone about my Hummer because no one SAW him do it. No case. Moral of the story: I had to fix my H2 for a little over a grand. I hired an attorney at $1500 to get the cops away from me. Plus, I had the stress for about a month. Was it funny to destroy some *********** house? Ya. It really was. Especially when i kicked out the window of the 1990 F-150! Regardless, you can wind up in more trouble than the punk does.
It's truly hard to imagine any teenage boys that would want to do harm to anyone's Ferrari. That's like a good Catholic spitting on the Virgin Mary. To me, as a teenager, any Ferrari was an object of reverence and awe, to do damage would have been inconceivable, no matter any beef with the owner. Sorry this happened to you and sorry how times have changed.
We had a theft at our house a few years ago- clearly was an "inside job," but given the number of workmen and tradespeople with access to the house, it was a guessing game. One of the town detectives took an interest, and slowly, but methodically, worked the leads- turned out it was the nephew of the guy that ran the cleaning crew; he was arrested when he showed up for a "voluntary interview" and wound up doing some time. I agree with everybody here who said that you shouldn't resort to self-help; if the police find the culprit(s) -wanna bet it's more than one, cause this is about showing off-dare ya kind of stuff- tell the prosecutor you want to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. The child- if it is one, will likely carry a record only until he/she reaches the age of majority- it can get expunged at some point after that- but will bear the burden of going through the judicial process. Part of that process is paying restitution, so the person's efforts for some time will go toward paying back the cost of the damage. But, equally important, it's now that this person, minor or not, has to learn about the consequences of breaking the law, and violating the rights of another person and/or their property. Often, the prosecutors in small towns will cut kids slack, particularly if their parents have clout in the town, but i would urge you to push this- if only for the reason that, if the kid is cut some slack, his lesson will be that you can wriggle out even after doing something serious. That would not be a good thing. It's worse than not prosecuting at all. And, btw, if word gets out that these turkeys got busted, had to pay, etc., i really don't think anybody is going to want to mess with you. So, take the high road, as i'm sure you will, and make sure the system is used to the fullest extent.
I think the course of action is now well established. As for the incident - total BULL****. I'd be SEETHING if something of such happened to me. Well, maybe you'll get some cash out of it (insurance pays for new one at full retail to you, you buy one from part-sex-change for 1k less - use half to pay the reward, and give the other half to your son). Darf's got the bat, I've got the bags... you find the little league team and Sunny'll set the meet up! --Dan n/m...
thanks for all the back up guys !!! i appreciate it !! and thanks for the laughs in between, i needed that too !. i will take the advice given here and wait and also post reward flyers. i will keep everyone updated as to what transpires. its not that it was just a windshield its the idea that someone tried to ruin one of my dreams in life that i finally accomplished. thanks again guys !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If one of my kids pulled a stunt like that, the cops would be the last thing they would worry about. They would want to be in police custody rather than coming home!
Sad event indeed... sorry to ear it. A valid argument for garageing your pride and joy behind the closed garage door if your not peering thru the windshield driving it. I would also suggest getting a one ton dually pick up truck and inexplicably mistaking the gas and break pedal the next time you come up to a red ight with a black CRX in front of you...you might feel a little bump if the front wheel actually goes over the engine block. I can lend you mine. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here's another laugh. That clown got so offended at my comment that he PM'd me calling me a moron and attacked my "sentence structure". If that doesn't tell you how weak his argument is, I don't know what else will. The truth hurts...
john, first off, this really sucks. i hope something happens to these a$$holes. second i agree with amslb182. also about being worried about the ferrari, if you do sell it i suggest you look into a porsche, more common means that it can get parked in more places. anyway good luck in finding them
reading this reminds me of an event that happened to me, years ago a disgruntled former renter at my house had a friend of his steal one of my 4 wheelers from the side of my house( iknow this from gossip, but couldnt prove)) , just about 30 min after i went to bed. my dogs were barking , the motion light went on outside the garage,. i grabbed my 9mm , and snuck out to the front room window , just then i got a glance of this kid pushing my 4wheeler . i looked out the front door window. PITCH BLACK. i could have fired into the darkness, hitting who knows... i chose to call the cops -they were there within 3 minutes, but no sign of any kid pushing a 4wheeler down the road... oh well . it could have been alot messier if i had chose to retaliate. especially with legal issues of a dead kid in my driveway.. so i ended up getting 4300.00 from insurance to replace my worn out 4wheeler i paid 1000.00 for years before. just food for thought ...
john, it could not have been 10th graders, NJ laws make it almost impossible for a 10th grader to have a drivers liscense. but still the flyers around school is a great idea.
Hi John, As a fellow 348 owner and for that matter a fellow Ferrari owner just want to say how sorry I am. It's pretty sick when someone has such disrespect for anothers property that they would sink to this level. In time people will talk. Who ever did this will want to brag about it and then someone who hears it will sell them out for a reward. Then you can move forward legally. I know this kind of thing can make you feel sick. However, don't sell the car because of THEIR reckless behavior. Give yourself sometime before you make any descision along those lines. Hang in there!!
The loser who did it will definitely brag about it and if you can spread the word of a small reward (maybe $1000), he will get sold out. To me it would be worth catching the punk to spend $1k. In Florida most insurance companies have a $0 deductible for any auto glass. I think I even heard one agent say it was a state law. You may have the same protection where you are. As a fellow 348 owner it would make me think about the con's of Ferrari ownership if vandelism got me, but try to not let it make you the big loser for doing something dumb. Go legal with the reward, and maybe your son can turn the punk's friends around on him, your family wins twice! BT
