WHICH CAR WOULD PROTECT THE OCCUPANTS BETTER IN A 200 MPH HEAD ON COLLISION? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's all Wayne Ausbrook's fault, he dared me to use 200mph. How about something more reasonable like 75mph...
Not me. I'm immortal. Okay, not exactly immortal to a "t." But, highly immoral. Now, Mr. McFishsticks, sir - when you say "200 MPH head-on collision," - do you mean, like these 2 cars: Each irresistable object separately hitting a gol-durn solid wall at 200 mph - kerblam Playing chicken and losing badly while going 100 mph each - blammo - 200 mph Playing chicken and losing badly while going 200 mph each - BLAMMO - 400 MPH
I'm know I'm probably gonna take a rash of %hit for saying this, but the crash photos I've seen of Fcars usually show a much more serious deformation of the passenger cabin (as well as quite a few split in two down the middle) than those of Pcars in general. I don't know about the Enzo, but the CGT has side airbags in addition to the two in the front. There are a myriad of safety features built into the CGT of which I'm aware, but am not nearly as up to speed on Enzo construction - even though their tubs are made of the same material by the same manufacturer. They each designed energy absorbion from the tub to the front of the cars in a different way and I just don't know which is safer. As well, Fcars do have a much higher propensity to burst into flames than do the Pcars (though one owner has already died in a CGT which started on fire as a result of a crash). At 200 mph, it would be beyond ugly in either car. In addition, they are both very low and if any accident involved another car - particularly an SUV, it could like be devastating given the right speed. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's the one. I would imagine it would be pretty much be a fireball with some odd bits thrown clear. Bringing things back to reality a bit..... how about 75 mph hour collision? Maybe not a head on but just smacking into something really good and hard. How about a rollover at 75mph or 150? I turned a Mustang convertible upside down at 75mph and by miraculous occurance survived. Which would be better then? The Carrera GT would certainly be scary not having a roof but it does have those rollover bar thingies. With the Enzo you would have to kick the windows out or something since those nifty swing up doors wouldn't work so well upside down.
Good point ! I never gave it a tought before, how do you escape from car with Enzo or Lambo type doors after a rollover?
Actually it's not like hitting a parked car at 150 mph at all, for that would involve a much higher kinetic energy. Unlike the basic laws of freedom set forth by our forefathers, the laws of physics are generally immutable.
That reminds me of an article I saw about these. They went to a wrecking yard to test the hammers. The found a big guy at the yard to take a whack at a passenger door window; after a few tries he was starting to get aggravated and really started wailin' away at the window. After giving it all he had numerous times it finally broke. I don't think the soccer mom in the minivan is going to do much with one of these.
The Carrera GT is the clear victor in the safety department. I wish I had the time and energy to copy some of the text from the owner's book about the safety features of the CGT -- some of it is pretty crazy.
your best bet in a 200 mph collision is probably prayer and lots of liquor. Both cars would be so far beyond recognition, theres no point in even asking.
i was a passenger in a car that bounced around the highway between the guard rail and the concrete divider like a pinball... The car lost control somewhere at around 85mph... The two front passengers, the three rear rear passengers and a dog all managed to survive with relatively minor injuries... After a few minutes of unconsciousness, i woke right up... The bump on my head has never gone away, but i'm not really one for vanity, anyway...
At those speeds, biomechanical laws say : Either your car becomes a tiny box, and the better part of Mr yourself is inside (real world) Or it's strong as a abrahams tank (well, no, even stronger), and you die because the sudden deceleration, that causes hemorragia from all internals (liver, etc). And it's the same at 150 mph. To avoid 1000 hours long blabla, i mean here a frontal direct impact at these speeds. Not that you start having an accident at 150 mph and hit the brakes, or hit another car travelling (in the same direction...) at 100 mph. No, i mean you hit a wall of concrete. Bang you're dead. McLaren f1 given or taken.
yeah, the real problem in such an impact is that the the brain is likely to hit the skull and many other organs will rupture as they move forward at those kinds of Gs.
RIP, I wonder if a force from above was trying to warn us of this. My condolences go out to all the victims families
Sadly a Porsche Carrera GT owner and his passenger died today when his car his a wall at 150mph. He will be greatly missed, this is creepy because I read through this thread yesterday and something like this happand this morning.
thought about this thread immediately...I really hope that, as cruel as it sounds (?) it was painless for ben. This sounds terrible, what he last wrote....just awful that it happened to a YOUNG guy!
