That fire comes from his team, his family, his friends and his fans!

In 1999, he wanted to be 100% mentally and physically ready befor coming back.

Lmao! Yeah suuuuure, he didn't want to help Irvine win the title. That's pretty much all there is to it. As the story went one of the high up at Ferarri called him and his daughter picked up she said he's outside playing soccer. Or somethint to that effect. Yeah sounded like he's really suffering from that broken leg and couldn't possibly think of coming back to HELP THE TEAM!!!!!!! What would you call that? ;)

Good point. So here a few pics from Goodwood a few years ago. Not quite the seventies, but at least the cars from the period and the laisser-faire ambiance of that decade.

And that gentleman is Rene Arnoux again.

You're gonna start that BS again? So you're trying to to say that MS wasn't 100% when he broke his leg? Mechanical problems can't happen? Nobody knows for sure what happened at Imola and i'm sure you haven't spoken to Senna from the great beyond to ask him. Keep your opinions on that to yourself. As for the other issue, he seemed to be in just fine shape when he was forced to come back and seemed really happy when Hakkininen won the title.

Yeah, that was definitely Arnoux. I remember at the time that he absolutely refused to sign any autographs, even though there were only 3-4 of us standing there.

Andreas, your Goodwood photos make me want to go very badly! I love the Alfa-Brabham. What a beautiful car.

Arnoux at the end of his career bacame a rolling chicane. Sad to see considering he was a pretty good driver at one point

Not being in the limelight anymore must have changed that: He signed my stuff without hesitation in Goodwood. Although I do remember, that when I met him in the pits at Hockenheim in the early eighties, he signed as well. And yes, you should do yourself a big favor and go there. Starting this year they have even a special rally track to showcase the rally cars in a better way. Goodwood is so civilized with tents and cafes where you can sip tea and champagne, your wife would love it too.

In the "good ol' days" of the USGP at Indy, we even had a showing of historic F1 cars, here a few:

Michael was happy at the end because Ferrari had won the Constructors World Championship!!!!!!!!! Finally! After such a long wait! In fact the reason why he was in such perfect condition was because of the mental and physical rest he took after the injury. Many drivers rush their come back after an injury and are never the same.

The problem with making comments about Senna's death is that everybody gets emotional and refuses to even entertain the idea that it was his fault. I have spoken to a several enthusiasts and technical experts who have no doubt in their minds that he had a lapse in concentration. (end of story)

For every expert you supposedly spoke to there are many more that say the Williams failed. The bottom line is you don't know for sure. End of story.
As for the other issue Michael was happy because Irvine hadn't won the title that he had spent years trying to win. He wanted to be the one to bring the title back to maranello and had worked hard to build the team to do so. He would have been very unhappy if a wanker like Irvine would have done it after all his hard work. I don't blame him, I would have felt the same way.

Irvine was no wanker. Irvine was probably as good as Senna! The only mistake that Irvine made is that he did not come from a developing nation and have an untimely death!

I am sure about it. Had Jaguar / (Ford) had their act together, Irvine would have done well and outshone Senna.

I was at that race in Dallas also. Hot as hell but great racing and access. Don't remember who Chris E. is interviewing. Close to Lauda, my hero then. Here are my old pics.

That's just silly, he had a good car at Ferrari and a championship almost gifted to him and still couldn't do it, do you honestly think he could have done it in a Jaguar? Irvine didn't like to do the work and put in the test laps that it took to build a team and develop a car. He was also slower than Senna and a few others over one lap or in raw race speed. He was a good number two driver but no more than that. To say he could have ever outshone Senna or Mansell or Prost is like saying he could have outshone MS which we all know he didn't.

    It sure is.

Athough we're no longer talking seventies here. IMHO the golden era of F1: The eighties with the turbos. Look at them wings! Whoaa!!!

Note the movie camera mounted on the Renault. You can see that footage in the video "Lap of the Gods".
