Do you think we should have a section in the UK F-Chat that has a list of all the cars we see with a rating/name and shame?

F-Chat is still probably a small part of the entire UK Ferrari market so why don't we protect ourselves for future purchases?

If you went to look at a car that wasn't as advertised or wanted to tell someone of your old car that (long gone) had a minor crash or any personal history with it, then why not name and shame.

Likewise, if you had a genuine minter or went to see a monster car then stick it in the good section.

I got thinking after this post and a motor down as 'crash damaged'.

What do you think, I'm just throwing up an idea? - Heaven and Hell section (mine would OBViousley go in the Heaven section!)

It's a gamble I agree but then the true minters/good/average/poors would also be shown up and available to the members of F-Chat.

It would let the good car retain a high value and the dogs would have to sell back in the Ferrari market and not the F-Chat market.

There seems to be plenty of help and advise on F-Chat AFTER the **** hits the fan but if we could help to prevent this before someone looses their shirt then I guess I'd be up for it.

Judge, jury and subjective are all words that spring to mind. Where do you draw the line between good and bad... how do you know that the minter you see is not Cat D or C repaired, or that the slightly shabby one has 40k faultless miles under it's belt.

Go see with an open mind will always be best.

Not knocking the idea though if everything on the playing field was equal.

I'm waiting for mine to appear on the market as 'mint' in a few months. Will certainly keep my eye out for it, as would hate for someone to buy that after a dodgy fix up.

But a CAT D will come up on the HPI.
Go see a car, find out it's been in an accident, let everyone know not to waste there time and money.......

This is a good idea in theory, however difficult to implement.

I saw a couple of dodgy 328's when I was looking for mine, one of which I confirmed had been clocked as I spoke to the previous owner. I reported it to HPI and also trading standards as it was offered for sale by a dealer as genuine milage.

I agree with Ray360M, what do you do if you see your own car listed as crap when in fact it is not?

I agree with seeing the cars with an open mind but I have to admit, I haven't got an endless amount of time to be wasted on viewing a motor 100 miles away that's an old boot. If you know it's an old boot then let me know.
Everyones perception is different which I think we all understand but there's only a few motors on the market at any one time so maybe three strikes should turn a minter into a munter?

Like my above post, would a 'three strikes your out' rule work?

If its written off CAT C, then you need to have a proper 'restoration' license to put it back on road. But it certainly can ... and is.... done.

    www.bluecycle.co.uk

...if you wanna pick up at auction a written off bargain (errrr.... NOT). quite possibly the most difficult things to sell in the world....

No VIC check required for a cat c amazingly, only on a cat D is this necessary. A simple MOT is enough to get most cat c's back on the road.

That's the point, it'll be sold as salvage, and someone will repair it on the cheap and then put it on e-bay or Autotrader as a "mint" car!

    This is very dangerous ground.
What qualifications do you and anybody else who would post on your proposed thread have to judge wether a car is good, bad or anything else.

Please don't take this the wrong way everyone
The majority of Fchatters on the UK section advocate getting a PPI done by a specialist(which I don't have a problem with). But you are proposing the same people, who by the fact that they are having PPI's done by a specialist, admit that they don't have the technical expertise to pass judgement on cars that they have seen.

Yes everyone can look at the paint and say how shiney it is,count the stone chips and see that the drivers seat needs reconnolising, but how many can look deeper.

    For instance:-
In my quest for a 348 spider, one of the cars that I have seen, looked on the surface pretty good, good hood and interior, paint not bad except for a few over zelous buffing marks, which could be sorted,HPI CLEAR.
However the front N/S wing had been damaged and repaired badly, along with the front spoiler, but I would bet that most people would not have spotted it.

Apologies if I have offended anyone, that was not my intention.

    Steve
