If one would have been next to it... 11.25 1/4 Mile E55 AMG. It would have been awesome if there would have been an Enzo next to that thing, huh? A 4-door sedan tearing through lightweight supercars! Amazing! Same amount of horsepower as Enzo, I belive. Respectable run, if nothing else. Anyways, the vehicle next to the E55 makes it look slow, but than again, the E55 is street legal, the other vehicle isn't. Enjoy the video. http://forums.mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=109180&page=1
It's a neat video.....but it's not a stock car. In order to do that burnout the ESP has been modified or disconnected, which means that the ECU's have been chipped, flashed or hacked. No big deal though....I have a stock AMG C36 in my garage right now.....and it's fast enough for me !!! A stock E55 produces something like 475+ HP though.........the Enzo and Murci have much more as well. I'd imagine a chipped and pully'd E55 could run high 10's all day long.
the enzo and CGT run 11 to 11.1 in the 130s bone stock - properly driven. and on the track, it doesn't matter what you do to any AMG pig, it would be slaughtered.
In 5 years it will be "Just an E55"! The Enzo and CGT will still be "Exotics" that the chicks will dig!
i was thinking the same thing... Although i abhor these pissing-match threads that compare straight line speed from one car to another, it would be silly not to recognize that, these days, it doesn't take the COST of an Enzo to modify a car to where it can BEAT an Enzo... in straight line speed, only, of course. That said, i still hate these pissing-match-straight-line-speed threads.
Still not bad for a $80,000 Mercedes. I hope they make a E65... I don't see a reason why they shouldn't. It would kick so much a$s...
I agree.....any mid engined two seat car will out handle a front engined sedan on the track.....I wouldn't expect less....... My friend just sold an S65 to someone the other day....that's a neat car......this new engine is awesome, I can't wait to drive one. $240K CAD + tax......gack !! Keys falling from a learjet again.............cover your head !!
ben, lj I would like you to see one AMG that would not get 'slaughtered' on a track. Any track. http://highresautoimages.com/mercedes/clkdtmamg.html Just nicked that link off for ease... I think this car must have some interesting work done to it. It probably weighs 4500 pounds, and with 470hp stock... coming close to an Enzo or CGT is fantastic.
ANY 4500 lb car will run out of tires and brakes in short order trying to pace an enzo or cgt on the track.
recently enjoyed some hot laps in MB's best street car to date, SLR, and it was all wallow, screaming tires, and burning brake fluid stinch. it's not a front engined sedan either. edit: i don't mean to demean the SLR. street mb's are just lousy track (where sports car performance is measured) cars owing primarily to mass (and auto trannies) while most are nice for the street.
The truth is a NOS'd Supra with all the mods can generate over 1,000BHP but it will destroy itself sooner rather than later. Exotics, and especially ultra cars like the Enzo and CGT are not about 0-60, 1/4 miles or any other short sprint traight line movements. They are about grace and elegance under track conditions, able to consistently keep on lapping at precise intervals without any fuss. At the end of the session you can wipe 'em down and drive home on regular streets without any fuss either. All of those highly modified beasts out there are single purpose, short lived things. If that's what you crave, go for it. I personally have broader needs from my vehicles.
In terms of super sedans, just wait until the E60 M5 comes out in stock form. They already have video on www.m5board.com of the M5 overcoming an early jump from an E55 on a rolling start and ending up 2-3 car lengths ahead. ... and it will hold its own on the track.
Don't take this the wrong way this is just my $0.02 as a Supra owner and specialist. Most 1000hp+ Supras don't use nitrous. If they have nitrous which is rare it's to spool the huge turbo. And 1000hp Supras can be very reliable if tuned by a professional with an AEM. My information is not just something I've read. I have around 300 Supra customers and have been in the community for the last 3-4 years and I've owned a few in the past both twin turbo and nonturbo models. With that being said I'd take just about every Ferrari over a Supra. Supras are fun cars but they don't come close to touching a Ferrari as far as the fun factor goes. Forza, Kevin
R&T clocked a 12.4 1/4 in the E55, but it is certainly a very fast sedan. As many others in the thread have said, though, it's not about the quarter mile... Gary
Brabus has a concept version of one. http://www.*************/cars/2003@$Brabus@$E%20V12x.html Having worked in a Mercedes dealer....I must say that the E55 is the ONLY Merc I'd consider buying. It looks classy, yet mean. And what can you say to 479hp? My one complaint is that it doesn't come in a manual tranny. BMW has Merc beat in that category, hands down. Just my opinion. I do love the E55.
They didn't design the enzo to be a quarter mile car, so what's the big deal? The camaro next to it, destroyed him anyway. You could get a Buick Grand National to beat the mercedes with very little in mods anyway.
Thanks for the posting the vid, I enjoyed it. Although I didn't enjoy hearing the same old Benz-bashing...
Actually, that's my friend Derek's car. I'll point him over to this thread so he can add his $0.02 worth. BTW< here's his thread on our local board with is dyno runs. http://www.tallahasseemusclecar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9267
I had that much power out of the E55 without resorting to NOS, so there's plenty left if he's chasing more power. The only trick is getting tyres that will stick. Awesome cars, but don't turn for ****. Try the same race down a winding alpine, costal or country road. As to the M5 comment earlier in the thread, just finished reading an M6 review, tested back to back against 997S. Testers said although the M6 had the edge in acceleration, as soon as there were any turns, the Porsche walked away. I have an M5 on order (due next month) and am being chased at the moment to go on an M5 track day by BMW, but I get the feeling the car is just not going to live up to the hype and will be a dissapointment.
Cool, my car on ferrarichat. I guess this is the next best thing to actually having a ferrari, lol. Thanks for the props from those who gave'em. Thanks to Lexani for sharing the video with fellow car enthusiasts and Hobb for showing me this thread. I don't think anyone is trying to challenge the unmatched prowess of a ferrari (other than maybe a Noble) or saying that the E55 is the ultimate 1/4 mile car. It's just neat for me to see a 4,200lb+ 4 door, luxury sedan racing down a 1/4 mile track at nearly 130 mph. Though far from a track car, I did win the Novice class at a mini-prix/autocross in it, no spray just Kleemann. I just want to win the 4 door grocery getter class. I think it's about getting the most out of your car, whatever that may be. Stephens, what did you do your your E to get that kind of power? Did you ever run your car in the quarter? I don't put much trust into dynos for anything more than showing gains or losses on the same machine. I know several E's that "make" 75-100 more hp than me but run slower times. It's a 11.6-11.7 car without any spray and a 12.33 car bone stock. It's also running BF DR's so traction ain't bad. The hardest part is trying to power load past 1,300 rpms without breaking traction. That's the only time I wish I had a clutch. A close friend of mine here in Tallahassee has a 348 (I think) and it's a blast. As bad as I beat it in the quarter, it beats me in the twisties. I only thought my M3 was tight in the turns until I rode in one of your cars. They are truly on rails.
Hey Derek. Glad to see you made it over. I still need to see it since last time I was at your house you were getting the nitrous installed.
Say what you will, these luxury vehicles are making great strides. It wasn't that long ago that exotics were the end all and be all of performance, whether we're talking about straight line or track. Now, 4-door luxury vehicles at 1/2 to 1/3 of the price are going neck and neck in terms of straight line performance with the latest and greatest exotics. On the track, they're surprisingly close with some of the lower end exotics. Heck, these new M5's are probably right there performance wise with new non-turbo 911's. It's pretty impressive no matter which way you cut it.
